It'd be pretty fun to just be a totally corrupt, pathological liar in office. Just the freedom in that, just lying constantly every day, cheating and stealing and then calling other people liars. Not that I want that, but It'd be pretty fun.

Either that or being a beaver in northern Alberta. Two really good lives right there.

Oh, interesting. I'm reading Brothers Karamazov, which is a nice break from current affairs.

Do you know any good books about beavers?

Does anyone specify a sharpness for their skates and notice any difference? I never knew it mattered.
- Zezel

i always bake my helmet and kneepads before i worry about skates👍

if you’re a big guy like me (6’5” 245) you will need a stiff twig like chorro👍🏿

i would recommend a 110-120 with the coffey blade👍

don’t worry about sharpening the sk8s until you’ve had a few spins around the ice in your gear👍🏿

they come with a damn good factory edge👍

I'm a goalie so me telling you I switched from 5/8 to 9/16ths won't do you any good. On my pond hockey player skates I cheat and just use a sweet stick but I would say just tell the kid behind the counter at Crappy Tire you want em sharpened.

It's unlikely he knows anything beyond that and it's 50/50 if he will do a good job or completely butcher your skates worse than the skate sharpening machines that you used to see in arena lobbies back in the day.

If you go to a good pro shop or place that specializes in skates you can get a great sharpening but that's way more of a pain than Sports Check or Crappy Tire.

I have to say, I'm watching replays from yesterday's Habs / Panthers game, and I'm stunned by the officiating in that game.

On Florida's first goal, Tkachuk is clearly in the blue paint - standing there and not pushed there or anything - and as Montembault attempts to dive back across his crease, he can't because Tkachuk is in the way. He has a 1% chance of making that stop, but that is completely irrelevant in terms of what goaltender interference is. So the Habs challenge - and lose. How? Based on what possible pretense is that not goaltender interference? I thought the idea of one room was to have consistency from Mike Murphy.

Later in the game Matheson does a "reverse hit" on Staal - except it's 4 feet from the puck and it's straight to the head - knocks Staal out of the game, Matheson goes unpenalized, and then the DOPS fines him a mere $5k for a clear headshot.

I mean the NHL is failing on all levels right now.

I didn't see the game nor the hit on Staal but I saw the replay (highlights) on the goal where Rat Chuck is in the blue and had the same WTF reaction as you. Literally he stopped the goalie from being able to make an attempt to make a save by being in the way, in the blue paint, when the puck was nowhere near the net. That's textbook no goal - such BS.

This just stinks of the league wanting more goals in my opinion. It's brutal.

If I'm an NHL goalie in that situation after seeing that call not get overturned I'm going full Ron Hextall / Billy Smith love child on anyone in my crease all the time.

If the league won't take care of it goalies will have to themselves.

the game was a poop show, poorly reffed for both teams, they lost control of the game early. It was clearly a penalty on Matheson, it was clearly interference on Tkachuk, knee penalty on Bennett for kneeing Harris...

and Gudas is still a giant coward.

just glad it was not a 3pts game, no OT

Last year I got my skates and my daughter's skates done at Sportchek.

Went to practice and they were so sharp, you didn't dare try to stop (it was OK for my daughter in full equipment, but I just had skates, gloves and a helmet).

After being on for 5 minutes, I pulled my daughter and myself off the ice - it was honestly too dangerous.

Took them back to the Sportchek the next morning - there was a line of people who had the same problem. The manager was apologizing, while laughing his ass off - apparently "the new kid" was a little to enthusiastic with the grinder.
