Not a great 1st period for Mitchell so far. I don’t think he does bonehead things every game but this has been a very bad start to a game for him.

D more used to keeping the puck in would be my guess. Bit stronger knowing when to stay in or back it up.

We've all seen Marner do the cutesie bat the puck out of the air poop, if you've watched him live he does it for half of every warm up.

If someone holds him accountable for two seconds it's a matter of a bigger blade? (frank) sakes. Bat the puck out of the air, put your body against the boards, stick a leg out... Keep the GD puck in the zone. You don't get to do the flat footed whiff and have everyone turn the blind eye cause your magic mitch.

I would. Marner screws up on the Verhaeghe goal, but I still want Murray out more on it and making it harder to score. He made the great save on the breakaway, but the last goal against stunk. Frankly I felt 2 of the 3 he should have had. I like how he's played for the most part this year, and I think our defense has been garbage since Rielly got back (and I don't think it's all on Rielly - it's just a bunch of things, some of which is on Keefe I think), but tonight if the D is going to continue to fail to close gaps, we need a goalie to step up.

D man wouldn't try that diving play for the giveaway. Either would go up the boards or eat it and take the hit. Would probably also not stop skating back and pickup the trailer. Just a bad sequence all around, one tiny mistake snowballed into a goal.

Honestly, I think that answer shows how much Morgan Rielly we watch on the Power Play. If it was Gio (when he was younger and a liltle more fleet of foot), you recognize that you have to concede the blue line to play D and you retreat back. That's really the only difference there - a real D would have retreated - it would have still been a 2-on -1, I think, but you at least take away the passing lane and let the goalie play the shooter.
