I mean sure, I have incredibly low expectations, but the Flyers' thread is pretty respectful this morning.
So far, at least. |

Gotta agree with you there. Panthers got screwed by some bad reffing last night.
I mean, I'll take it, but I'm not ignorant to it. - Kinger34
Full disclosure: I didn't watch much of the first two periods closely (building a desk), but at least for the third period, the reffing was appalling on both sides.
WTF was the mugging in front of the Panthers' net?
How is that not a call?
Oh, right, because it's a close game in the third period.
I franking hate the NHL.
And as I've pointed out a million times before, don't blame the refs. They are just doing what the league wants them to do. |

Are we supposed to be all up in arms on this one? I don't know, this one seems to have been dealt with pretty well and respectfully. |

Incorrect.
He never once openly judged the gays but feels uncomfortable taking part due to his and his families religious beliefs.
To be clear I have quite a few gay friends, an uncle who was (RIP), and a sister who’s gay so I have absolutely zero issue with it myself.
That being said, it looks like the intense supporters of LGBTQ are becoming as judgemental as the people who judge them. Not good. Even my sister has said this. - Dozzer
Im mostly on one side of the fence on this but i could see my foot hanging on the other side for a few seconds.
1) its just a change in color of numbers and name from white to multi colour. If you truly respect all, whats the big deal in wearing it for 20mins? Nothing in your religion says you cant wear a jersey of a team that pays you with multi coloured numbers on it.
But
2) why does the nhl need to do this? Could they not have teams show support in other ways, maybe have the boards multi coloured for warm up, or have the changed jerseys for sale only and not worn by the players?
But
Then im like, its 20 f'n minutes, put it on skate around take it off and toss it if you want....or sell it off for a charity and do some good as a result of 20 mins of " grr i hate this so much".
Anywho...it seems to have been handled but as always...F the flyers just in general Lol |

That may be true but there’s a difference between some people being judgemental and outright discrimination and harassment. Teachers are being fired for being gay in different parts of the states and mass shootings at gay clubs continue.
Things like Pride Night by the Flyers help destigmitize people in that community. I wonder how Provorov’s actions went down with JVT and Laughton who both took their own outreach efforts with some kids. |

Gentle reminder about comments on the Provonov / pride warm up jersey wearing incident.
Please refrain from name calling & as Aron put last night please be mindful of the jokes and comments that comes with the Provorov territory & the appropriateness of them here.
It's a bit akin to political opinions being in some ways - it can get ugly quickly as someone mentioned is occurring on Twitter currently / not surprisingly.
Thx |

Why not? It's not my money. It's not like they'll pull a Canucks and have Ray Shero, Chris MacFarland or somebody standing around Scotiabank Arena polishing their new GM card while the season is going on. |

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing.
The NHL - purely through accident - did the right thing.
Someone exercised their right to express their beliefs (to be clear - I completely disagree with him).
There were no repercussions from the team or league - and I can't help but think that it would be a very, very interesting legal question if they did (that neither the team or the league would want to go through).
Now we the general public are free to judge Mr. Provorov, and form our own opinions on him.
Isn't that how it is supposed to work?
I've also been running some slightly different scenarios over in my head. What if a Muslim player refused to wear the pride jersey?
What if a Jehovah's Witness refused to support a team promotion of a hospital, because it did blood transfusions? Or a Catholic who refused to support a hospital that performed abortions?
What about a pacifist refusing to support military night?
I realize that the world of professional sports is different from the real world, but my employer can't force me to wear a button or hat supporting a cause. |

Actually I disagree with the bolded. He would, his family would, and his religion would know that it he was wearing it to support something they consider a sin. So yes, it would effect his personal life rather dramatically.
As I mentioned it’s not like he publicly judges people who’s sexuality isn’t accepted by his religion and that’s why he’s not doing anything wrong.
Having a belief is not wrong. Openly judging or expecting someone to live their life according to your beliefs is.
But yeah, (frank) the flyers, that I agree with whole heartedly |

No one is expecting him to live his life according to anyones beliefs. Its wearing a jersey with altered colours for 20mins. As cc pointed out, he has no issues wearing military ones.
I mean if the issue is about certain colours on a jerseys, just imagine the poor rich souls who had to wear those ugly winnie the pooh bruins jerseys, those canuck red and black jerseys from the 90's, those 90's islanders fisherman jersey or the habs pajama jerseys.
Out of 2000 "gods" one of them should have been against those lol.
Anywho, its been dealt with. |
