So apparently Provorov refused to wear the Flyers’ pride warmup jersey tonight.

That might be a bit reactionary. It was charging - he took more than 3 steps to deliver that hit and did not let up, which is basically the very definition of charging. The fact that the NHL doesn't call it consistently is the NHL's own fault.

I'd even forgive him for not fighting ZAR - he shouldn't have had to. It was a clean hit. The hip may have hit the thigh, but it didn't get low enough to clip the knees. I don't like hip checks for the obvious risks they pose, but until the NHL smartens up and decides they are illegal due to the inherent risks, what are you going to do?

Gudas isn't smart, and aside from being physical and enjoying nasty play, isn't a particularly good defenseman. I mean . . . in the playoffs when nothing is called, he's probably an asset, but in the pursuit of the playoffs, he's probably a liability on a fringe team.

- Monkeypunk

On a leafs team where a lot can be called in the playoffs, hes a huge liability. The leafs will stay away from that dumb pos.

It should have been 5 and a game. Railed him right into the post after he turtled when challenged after he low-bridged Engvall. Dirty coward POS

I guess it's easier than saying the Leafs are faster, more skilled with better coaching and are more relentless on the puck so we had to take penalties and then we lost.

It's fascinating watching the incompatibility of gay rights advocates and religious rights advocates play out in real time.

Twitter is going to rage all day.

I mean he's also only scored _against_ 3 teams! But given that he has a career high of 6 goals in a 76 game season, any offensive you get from him is gravy, and if he brings some physicality, some energy and checks effectively - it's all good.

To be fair, it would be shorter to name the ones who don't hate Paul Maurice.

He's a funny, peculiar, bitter old man.

Which is what my friends think of me, so by that criteria, there's probably no one on your list.

As a general rule, I don't like assuming I know a public figure who I have never met.

But it seems like I wouldn't be able to stand being in the same room as him for more than about three minutes.

My jokes aside, my honest take on Paul Maurice (whom I know as well as you do) is that he comes across as someone who thinks he's smarter than you, but he's probably fairly intelligent and charming. I do know he has a good sense of humour from his press conferences over the years. Look, he has worked in the NHL for 25 years and is 4th all-time in games coached. You have to scroll down to 18th among that list of coaches to find one with a worse playoff winning percentage than Maurice (that's Tippet), and you have to scroll down to 27th on that list to find a coach with a worse regular season winning percentage than Maurice.

The only way this guy has been working for so long in the NHL while being this incompetent is that he has to be really, really likeable behind closed doors!

Incorrect.

He never once openly judged the gays but feels uncomfortable taking part due to his and his families religious beliefs.

To be clear I have quite a few gay friends, an uncle who was (RIP), and a sister who’s gay so I have absolutely zero issue with it myself.

That being said, it looks like the intense supporters of LGBTQ are becoming as judgemental as the people who judge them. Not good. Even my sister has said this.

Gotta agree with you there. Panthers got screwed by some bad reffing last night.

I mean, I'll take it, but I'm not ignorant to it.

Yup, it’s good to remember games like this one when the refs call poorly against the leafs. People who think poor calling is intentional are silly, maybe they should go down on the ice so they can realize their site isn’t quite as clear as the camera angle they get on tv lol.

Maurice is probably glancing worriedly behind him for when that axe takes his head off for being the guy who "quit" on his team. A team that everybody thought had major issues and needed to blow it all up, yet suddenly are the best team in their conference and problem players are having career years; while he leads a team that had one of the greatest seasons in modern history and is now going to miss the playoffs.
