Three outside moves this past offseason:
Comrie (third goalie, not playing)
Lyubushkin (hurts us most nights in his 13 minutes)
Hinostroza (waived)

2 moves in season:
Clague (healthy scratched as often as he plays)
Jost (solid waiver claim)

They're looking like a 20% success rate so far.

Notice you left out the early long term extensions for Tage and Samuelsson from the above.

No. Don Granato does a pre and post game interview. He also does a weekly on WGR. Adams on occasion does media. I have never seen an analytics person from any organization answer a question or claim credit for a decision. They're simply a magic pill answer when someone else in the organization needs to say something to the media.

We hear from Ventura about as much as we hear from their head amateur scout. Have you ever heard from a pro scout? When KA and Donnie speak, it's measured. This is a closed-off organization, by design.

Same question to you. Also, who decided to put Krebs with 28 and 21 to find his game? My guess is that came from the coaching staff without a hint of analytics, but that is a total guess. Did any of these analytic based websites who offer opinions on the Sabres suggest something like this? My guess is no.
- lacaprup

I suspect this was a group decision. They clearly wanted to get Krebs in the lineup and learning that the guys they thought could play C weren't very good at it. I absolutely think analytics played a role in Krebs + Jost at C.

"Co-owner Terry Pegula announced Roth's appointment Tuesday. Wife Kim Pegula remains president of the Sabres and the NFL's Buffalo Bills, while still recovering from what her family described as health issues that led to her being hospitalized in June.

PSE, which oversees the Pegula's holdings, did not immediately respond to a message from The Associated Press seeking an update on her health"

"Pegula added that he will continue to work with general manager Kevyn Adams on the hockey side while Roth will help "continue to grow the culture" of the team. It was not immediately clear how many of Kim Pegula's responsibilities he will assume."

First useful piece of information 10 minutes into the interview
"The NHL provides data 20 times a second on the exact location of the puck and player jerseys."
"If you do hockey analytics well you can really start to establish a competitive advantage over the rest of the league." (I guess we don't do it well.)
He specifically answers an expected goal question, and says "we have better data that gives us a more granular picture" while trying not to smirk about that ridiculous stat.
He also specifically says he wouldn't find the expected goals stat "actionable" to have a conversation with Don if they disagreed with the performance of the team in a game.
He doesn't understand physical play from forwards wear down defensemen over time.

Overall, he gave very general answers. The real takeaway from the interview for me is he and his staff have a tremendous amount of data we never see, which is a shame. Without saying it, I think he finds what passes as analytics in the public laughable.

It's even clearer to me now than when I said at the time last year, the Sabres have never viewed Asplund as an elite defensive player, which is why he ever only played against scrubs.

Adams didn't bring in any one of those players. I also didn't mention he saddeled us with Boosh and Comrie next year too because the post was strictly about his ability to bring in talent, not sign a contract good or bad.

Agreed, you have the forwards and no problem scoring and some big names on defense that are still learning the game.
Maybe trading some forward assets for a goalie makes sense. Risky because goalies are voodoo at best.
Want Matt Murray for a first

This is still completely misleading. The plan - like it or not - was to let the kids play. Just about every name you listed was simply a lottery ticket. It would be different if Adams had been signing scrubs to multi-year contracts like Yzerman has been doing.

Of course, an argument could be made that Adams should have done more to shore up the D once the injuries hit.

- Slump Buster

How is stating facts misleading?

The three guys they signed suck.

You don’t think that Comrie being bad, Hinostroza never scoring this year, and Lyubushkin taking an absurd amount of penalties haven’t led to losses?

Is the Samuelsson one really all that special?

If he hit the open market today what does he get?

He’s been wildly inconsistent and has very limited amount of games.

I think he’s a good player, but they didn’t get some huge discount

They've got him at 4.2mil for 7 years. He's being paid his last year of the ELC this year.

He's 22 playing top 4 minutes.

He's looked great for the most part this year imo. Thought he had a good game last night other than tying goal but I put that blame on the coaching as it clearly isnt being preached enough behind the bench that they need to clear the fvcking front of the net.

I said to a co-worker today that a wood pallet from Uline costs 150 bucks

Thought I was shooting a little high but stood my ground and looked it up because he seemed shocked

180 bucks for a 36x36 new wood pallet

Like what

Good Christ. Go to a home depot and talk to one of the guys working the lot. Anyone with moderate charisma statistics should be able to get at least one pallet for free.
Edit: and here they are for $36

I think he’s been up and down. Mostly ok. Was good last night until late third

I think the contract is fine. But it’s nowhere close to the bargain Tage’s deal is.

I think Sammy was the one who fired the would-be game winner off the pipe in the 3rd. Not worried about him

No one should be worried. He’s gonna be a solid player for a while

If you were another team would you offer him 5-6 mil right now long term?

I think the contract was a good move, I just don’t think it’s a giant bargain.

Defensive D that don’t score don’t cost a ton

They can't keep playing these guys these kind of minutes and not expect bad games or bad shifts. Power and Samuelsson aren't used to that and Dahlin is making more and more mental errors. That is one move Adams should have made was helping out his young D Core.
