It's a redneck thing.

If you say it with a southern accent it sounds perfect.

I agree. I just think that you need to take a broader look at the idea of results than to only look at playoff outcomes. That’s a factor but one of a bunch of factors.

Normally yes of course it encompasses more than just playoff results....hence why he still has a job. But its now year 5, so their broader look may have narrowed.
Who knows, we'll see.
Either way, Im fine with.

My magic formula for playoff success is:

1. Goaltending has to remain good
2. Rielly-Brodie pairing has to find its groove
and
3. The big 4 have to translate reg season to playoff success.

Fingers crossed on 1 and 2 ..nothing we can do but hope it works. I think they add a LW/C into the top 6 to help make number 3 come true.

Enjoy the ride.

The biggest disappointment I had from Saturday night is that the Leafs again made critical errors that cost them the game. Keefe talked about "lessons" in his postgame presser and said something to the effect of "you'd think they would have learned these lessons by now but obviously not". The problem is the Leafs could do exactly what you say is the formula, but if they don't stop beating themselves, they're not going to beat a team like Boston or Tampa.

Deck chair John Tavares scored 47 goals the year Dubas signed him and has been pretty much point a game since then.

Top goals scorers the year before

Do you see that elephant in the room?

That's John Tavares' contract, which is the single biggest mistake Kyle and Brendan have made and has handcuffed them ever since.

How has it handcuffed them? From what I've seen he's been able to keep all of his key players with Tavares in the fold aside from Hyman and Mikheyev who signed what will more than likely be horrible contracts with time as UFA's.

I'm sure it's limited him in some ways, but handcuffed has got to be a bit of a stretch...

It goes back to the hypothetical keeping Kadri instead of signing JT and running the cheaper 2nd line option which would give them more cap to sign other hypothetical players.

The contract was a lot, but he was an ufa and so far JT has been worth it imo.
Hes played at .98 ppg since signing in Toronto.
Sure kadri may have been able to produce similar #'s....maybe (he did .085 in Colorado over 3 years - does that mean he would have done the same here, dunno)
But had dubas not signed JT, so many people would be faulting him for that specially if the leafs werent able to get past the 1st round the past several years.

If being handcuffed means being at the top of the standings and goals against, sounds dope to me!

Ahh. But it's all so hypothetical at the end of the day isn't it. We're we going to be plucking those same players off the open market that gave Hyman and Mikheyev those contracts 🤔

Hes meaning that technically if they kept kadri and not signed JT, they would have had 6m in cap space to play with.
But they got a bonafide superstar via ufa....one of the biggest ufa signings in leafs history.
I love the JT signing.

Honest question because I've seen you post this before and I don't remember reading about it (or rather anyone's opinion on it back then) were YOU opposed to the JT signing when it happened and did you say so in here?

I think it's hard to look back now and say it shouldn't have happened, he was the biggest FA avaialble since Stamkos and almost every team that thought they had a chance at him were after him and he decided he wanted to come home.

He allegedly even left money on the table to do so.

I don't disagree the # of expensive contracts on 4 forwards has created a challenge now but I also don't know that it's fair to say the Leafs shouldn't have got JT based on his production, leadership and the (fair) assumption that the cap would rise and we wouldn't have gone through a 2 year pandemic and flat salary cap.
