True North (Chipman) will determine whether Toews fits in with their "moral standards" or not.
I maintain that no Russians will be Jets out of respect to the large Ukrainian population here. - bennythehat
I totally agree that the team needs to win some faceoffs with Lowry at 50.2 and Stenlund the best at 54.7%. Shief, Dubois are below 50%.
The Hockey Writers are saying the price is a 2024 second-round pick and 2023 third-round pick and the Hawks wound have to retain some cap. Is that too high of a price to pay? I would say "get it it done"!

I'd give Chicago a 2nd rounder or Heinola and a 3rd.
Chevy is connected there, so maybe maybe.....
He may not be the Toews of 10 years ago, but he is at least Paul Stastny caliber.

I would rather spend assets going after Horvat! He's young and can be signed long-term. Would be a great insurance policy in the case PLD and/or Scheifele do not sign here long-term. I am just thinking of the Jets depth at center being Scheifele-PLD-Horvat-Lowry. I don't think many teams in the NHL could handle that center depth. |

The thing is Toews has to agree/want to come to the Jets, if the Jets were interested. I heard from a source a couple of years ago now, that Toews had no interest in Wpg, his home town.
Now maybe Jonathan's views of the Jets has changed, I haven't heard, but who knows? Certainly the price is right.
I still wonder if the Jets might be interested in Chychrun (and Crouse) from Arizona. Problem there would be Crouse has about 4 years left after this one on a hefty contract. But would provide grit and can score. 2nd/3rd line! |

If Toews wants a shot at the cup, there are a limited number of options for him. He could pull a Trouba and say he only wants to go to a Colorado (for instance). Time will tell.....

Then you will have zero interest in Pororov as well due to his refusal to wear the jersey. - Old Flopper
And his hilarious contract, but yeah. F*ck Provorov |

The difference between a 55% faceoff team and a 45% faceoff team across a season is about 1 point.
A faceoff is just a puck battle. Hundreds happen every game. |

A +10 point faceoff differential is worth approximately two wins over a full season of 82 games. So 4 points. Every faceoff win has been calculated as worth .02 of a point. In a 7 game series, it can have an important statistical significance, especially in a series where your opponent has a very good faceoff guy. |

No Horvat. Dear god, no. He’s been solidly Nik Antropov level his entire career, and nothing has improved this year but his shooting percentage |

Never mind the calculations and all of Rexy's mumbo jumbo...watch the games....how many goals have been scored on the Jets this year because of lost faceoffs ? Quite a few.

We’ve read different research.
I don’t think gambling on *maybe* an extra goal in the playoffs at the cost of shutting down 5.25mil in cap space and making is arguably worse at 5v5 |

I have read most research on faceoffs and I find it funny how some are trying to disregard their importance but in same breath talk about the importance of possession, which is the goal of faceoffs. here is the major flaw with most articles that aim to minimize faceoffs, they look at all faceoffs including neutral zone faceoffs. I will agree neutral zone faceoffs do not matter as much but including them in your argument is like saying a shot from the red line and a shot from 5 feet out are the same, they are not. Gaining possession via faceoffs specifically on PK and PP have an impact on your special teams success of limiting or creating chances which you should want to do. Especially in the playoffs when special teams play a significantly major role in success or not.
Faceoffs is just one metric, like all metrics, if you choose to disregard it, fine, but then disregard them all |

Speaking of face-offs, Ryan O’Reilly has a 56.8% winning percentage in them. We should look at making a trade for him or Horvat. Horvat by the way has a 57% winning percentage in the circle.
I stand by the notion that center depth wins championships! |

That’s the way of it.
Lose a faceoff, get scored on.
Win a faceoff, your dman fumbles it, you get scored on.
It’s not an important enough facet of the game to spend assets addressing |

O'Reilly as a rental would be great. If we are talking "rentals", I would take him over Toews.
I like Horvat, but in the long term, we can't afford him, 55, and PLD.

Jets 1st period F/O % vs Buffalo is 13.3%, lol.
That’s brutal. |

After 2, @ the game, FO% is improving, now 27.6%.
Has to be the most lifeless game I have ever attended, looks like Buff has a permanent PP.
The FO issue is an issue. |

Yeah, that's awful because we suck royally at faceoffs. You guys aren't competing tonight except Hellebuyck. |
