I assume they assumed Brunette was a great Assistant Coach with offensive flair and them losing so early was based on needing to "get hard and defensive" so they got Maurice.

I will say that it depends on your mindset, but I think most goalies accept the blame for any goal against. You can read a play and realize that your team had a failing - but that is your actual job as the goalie - to step up when those things happen and make a save. I mean . . I remember a game (and I can't recall if we were being destroyed or not, but I sort of think we were) where the other team got a 3 on 0, and they triangled up beautifully with the left winger carrying it in, the centre in the high position, and the right winger far side - and as I'm watching the play form, I see my team behind them not even skating - just watching the play.

If I recall that play correctly, the right-winger one-timed the pass over the net, but I'd slid over, and the left winger got the puck off the back boards and gave it back to the centre who popped it in - because no one from my team was STILL back. And I still blamed myself because if I hadn't slid so far to the left and been down so low, I could have gotten back to the centre of the net. Objectively you know it's really unlikely it's not going to end up in the net, but that doesn't change your personal expectations.

But I will argue to the bitter end of the Earth that goalies are not protected enough while they are in their crease.

Even when they’re out of the net they need some degree of protection. My kid was concussed when he was 13 because an opposing coach told his team to take him out. He was blindsided behind the net after moving the puck. I only found out what the coach had said the next day. The player got 2 minutes. It was against a Hamilton team.

Are we losing some exciting play by not allowing a player to kick the puck into the net? The rule is fine

is anyone saying they want players to be able to kick it in the net?

the play last night was actually kicking it away from the net not at it, it was going towards the left side faceoff dot...but the other team then kicked it in his own net.

if we are being accurate

Engvall is gone next year anyway and there’s a bunch of ways to spend his $ before another two years of Bennett at $4.42M.

Well list more than you have because I haven't liked any of your ideas to spend the cap

That is fine most of us don't like most of your ideas. I personally hate it when you get 1 out of 20 right and give us the old I told you so.

I didn’t pay attention to all of the replay discussion but isn’t the issue that the last Leaf who had contact kicked it and that’s what results in it being disqualified. It seems that we only ever talk about this when a Leaf goal is disallowed. It’s sad because it’s probably the only goal McMann will ever score.

And I try so hard to win your approval……

Leafs have to be very careful adding multi-year cap hits given the need to resign the big boys. Simply saying trade Engvall doesn’t help because he’s gone anyway next year and Bennett and his $4.4M hit stays.

IMO Bennett isn’t worth adding to the pressures that need to be addressed in the next couple of years. Brodie replacement, goalies paid or replaced, the two Swedish D will need to be paid, Holl will need to be replaced or paid, Kampf and Bunting. Did I mention Willie, Matthews and Marner. We’ve got some guys coming up and Dubas can find some value free agents but how many times are we going to trade Engvall and Kerfoot.

This is the year for a rental.

If it’s off a skate it only counts if it’s a deflection… doesn’t matter what direction it was kicked in but if that’s the last thing your team did with the puck then the goal doesn’t count… easy peasy rule. I like it.

Of course if the person who kicked it deliberately was a goalie who made a save and somehow the puck makes it down the ice and goes into the opposition’s net… I think those count lol
