I’d play Knies with JT before trading him for a few months of any of those guys.
- Canada Cup

I would trade Knies if Kane, Horvat, or Larkin were the return.

Nope.

Willie didn’t leave the zone at all. That was Engvall (and Bunting in a different way). Willie was the only guy in the blue paint trying to check Forsberg.

Holl blocks a shot, it goes into the corner, Rielly and a Pred fight for it, the puck goes out to the point, Bunting tries to get it and misses but leaves the zone, Engvall leaves with him.

That leaves Rielly, Willie and Holl. Rielly goes for the guy with puck between the blue line and the circle, isn’t able to get, he passes to Forsberg who scores.

All them Swedes look alike.

Everything else I said happened, though. Just named the wrong name.

EDIT: Think I got Nylander in my head because it was in the post I quoted. Dumb on my part.

FLA sucks and CGY doesnt look great either

- Santo_44

not a bad time to hold Florida's 1st round pick in 2023 and CGY in 2024 (conditional)

I don't like the idea of moving Knies but it depends on how important Dubas views the 23' playoff run.

If Knies is untouchable then I think we're likely out on the big 4-5 names b/c I imagine some team will be motivated enough to move something big.

I float Perron b/c he's had some elite level playoff performances in recent years and you should be able to snag him for a 1st or maybe less.

- The Law

he did manage 3 assists at the world juniors despite the advantage of being 19 and hasnt progressed his ppts/game from last year. He may not be the savior that everyone thinks

10pts in 12gp last year. Marner had 8pts in 7gp but had 3 very mediocre years preceding that. Small sample sizes, meh.

To wit: I'm not sure I understand what the downside would be in a MT for MM trade (not that it would ever happen).

How much is Mitch going to re-sign for? Scary to think about...

- mjones242

Ya, his next contract could be in the Matthews range for sure.
But that will depend on how he plays in the playoffs and high the cap increases.
But I wouldnt do a MT for MM one for one trade. More would have to come back...even though I agree it would never happen.

Meh, those guys would have to sign an extension.
Not sure dropping a kid straight from college onto the 2nd line of a team that is expected to go deep in the playoffs is great either. Specially only a month or two before the playoffs start.
But we'll see.

Marner's the best player in the deal, hard to do that.

Nobody was covering up for Engvall but he shouldn’t have assumed Bunting was going to get the puck and Rielly went a bit too high up the boards leaving too many Wings and too much space. There was a combination of mistakes and it’s too easy to blame it on one guy.

Looks like a series of unfortunate events ...Rielly wins the corner battle but is soft with his chip up the wall ...Bunting is too light on the puck battle ..Willie turns the wrong way in the zone just as the puck was sent back down low ...and Holl tries to block the pass but doesn't. I hold them all 25% responsible. I'm fair that way.

Engvall gets a pass for being smart enough to stay out of the picture.

Any Leaf prospect over 5' 10" and 170 lbs is going to come with at least 50% inflated expectations.

- Fakepartofme

I don't. It's very debatable.

Also, is MM 1.5M better than MT? Also also, MM will be getting a substantial raise when he re-signs which should also be factored.

Could be a minor debate, for me Marner right now is the better player overall.
MT brings more physicality for sure and his point results are definitely increasing.
It could turn out the MT becomes the better player....but for now I believe Marner is better as of today.

Just saw your edit about the extra cap....is he 1.5m better....dunno. Will he be several million better after he gets his raise? That will be hard to do and definitely needs to be considered, agreed.

Nobody posts about all the times Rielly makes a first pass out of the defensive zone or carries the puck through the neutral zone.

For sure. I wasn't solely blaming any one guy, even if one guy (frank)ed up more than the rest. It was a group (frank)age.

I was more talking about how people (mostly on the Twitter, some on here) somehow came to the wrong conclusion that it was Rielly's fault.

WJC stats are overrated.

Ask the scouts. Top prospect that projects well, I am excited.

No need for a saviour, leafs are a top team.

Saving is not needed.
