You want me to coach your kid? - Atomic Wedgie
Joking aside - he's 14, but had not played in any organized league since he was 6. He played the one year and just didn't really like hockey that much. When he was 13 he decided he'd like to play again. So he started up with power skating for a year and this year started in a house league.
His basic puck instincts are poor because he lacks experience, but his skating has improved drastically as the tools he's learned in his power skating courses are starting to be implemented in his movements. Obviously he's still very far behind most of his friends, and even the league average, but I would honestly say his first day of assessment in September/October, he may have been the worst or second worst kid on the ice, and now he's better than a number of kids on each team - so good for him. He doesn't see it, but the parents watching do, and they're rooting for him, which is pretty cool.

As we hit the halfway mark, has anyone done an analysis of all the moves Dubas has done this year?
Because it seems to me he's basically batting 1.000 on everything he has done since July 1st to today.
Am I drinking too much blue Kool-Aid? - Atomic Wedgie
Absolutely wild how well things have turned out, everything he's done has turned to gold. Timmins was absolute robbery. I really like the Hunt pickup. Obviously the questionable (during the summer) goalie tandem has outperformed anyone's expectations. They depth on D. I could go on. Dubas deserves a new contract, unfortunately it's all for nothing if they don't see playoff success.

I have to believe at this time, Campbell's struggles with the emotional/mental side of the game.. I don't know if he can handle the pressure that comes with losing - PatC80
100% it is mental. It's mind-boggling to me how no one in Edmonton saw this being a real possibility when they signed him. He was a below average goalie on a very solid defensive team. Edmonton is all offense, so a goalie like Campbell is going to be exposed, and the numbers show that. I still think he's going to have a bit of a resurgence, the whole team should.

Leafs are 10-0-3 without Brodie. He sucks worse than Rielly. |

Absolutely wild, the depth on D has been incredible. I can't remember a time where the Leafs have been devastated with this many injuries and gone about their business as usual.

Sounds like Bennett could be traded soon.
Feels like Leafs could get him...but how much does Bunting cost? Much more than 4.4M? |

The playoffs is what matter at this point. I agree, his deals all look to be pretty good thus far and I wish the talking heads would admit they were wrong about the goalie carousel but c'est la vie.

Playoff success is all that matters.
Hes made some good moves for sure but if it doesnt translate to at least a taste of the 3rd round, it wont matter |

Don't agree with the mindset nothing matters, absolutely matters.
Could be the Panthers and not even be near a playoff spot. "nothing matters" |

The one thing I would recommend is to hang around he arena before or after his game, and have him watch an older, more experience kid play his position. But get your kid to specifically watch just that one player, to see where they are positionally.
Kids can't learn anything from watching the NHL - it's simply too fast and too complex.
Another good resource is to watch Team Canada women's games - they are soooo positionally sound, but it's at a slower pace, and once again, not as complex or structured.

I think what he's trying to say is that Dubas' driveway won't have any moose on it, because the Pacific Ocean's cupcakes are meta. |

Was screwing around on Travelocity during a boring meeting this morning.
Mrs. Wedgie and I could fly into Boston Friday morning, fly out Sunday afternoon.
Hotel in Back Bay (kinda like Yorkville).
Less than $500 each, including taxes and fees.
Very tempting to go watch the Leafers play there this weekend...
...until I saw the ticket prices on Ticketmaster. Holy poop. Cheapest is $260 USD (that's a seat, not for the pair). |
