They’ve got gobs of depth on D. What they’re missing from last year is their Muzzin. That’s the only kind of trade that makes sense to me and it would have to be someone good enough to actually make their rotation, not a Boosh or a Schenn.

I still think a top 6 forward is the big add. Jarnrok is nice there but it’s like he’s a good, responsible piece rather than another driver. Adding someone moves him to the third and presumably Engvall to the 4th.

I also wonder what they think they have in Knies and whether they see him playing at all this year. There’s very little runway but the reports from scouts from other teams have been off the charts.

Yeah go big or go home on D.

As for forwards it seems like the market is flooded, I wonder if they can get someone for cheap that can score.

I think Dubas makes some big moves here.

TB did the McDonough trade, Hagel/Paul trades last year

COL did Manson, Lekhennen, pretty sure there was one more

Plenty of avenues to go with.

Not convinced they don't want to add on D either. Best players available for the best prices, go with that.

it would really tickle my gizzard if dufuss added some big hard d🥰

I’d almost forgotten about manson👍🏿

gudas and chickenrun come to mind👍

to me, “big moves” implies winning the Stanley cup win you have a chance, ergo you have the stones to deal some of your icecapade stars for some grownups who are serious about the team and don’t shrink like a dead Richard in winter under a sheet of snow once the playoffs start🤦🏿‍♂️

Anyone who thinks Nylander will be traded is insane. The Leafs (and Dubas) are all in this year, and Willie is having a monster year. There is no conceivable trade imaginable that would include Nylander.

Agreed.

Digressing to the non-Core components, Jarnkrok seems to be clicking with Snake and Mitch and Bunting has raised his game. I would have said a Top 6 LW was our top priority but I think we're back in a wait and see mode on that front?

Guessing the usual depth trade near the TDL is likely*.

* assuming no major injuries occur. Which, obviously, will definitely happen now that I've jinxed things...

- mjones242

Id say, still make a move to improve the top 6 with a winger. It increases and improves our forward depth, which we'll need for a long run.

I'm thinking Knies should be left alone for the season. No sense in rushing him at this point unless we're completely desperate.

One also wonders if his numbers are elevated on a very, very talented Golden Gophers offence. To wit: is he a real boy or are his numbers nicely propped up by Cooley and Snuggerud?

Haven't watched him play a lot but making the leap from the NCAA to play limited mins on an elite NHL team in the middle of a playoff race doesn't seem prudent at this juncture. (insert Dana Carvey)

Then again, maybe he injects exactly what this team needs? 🤷

recent history has shown that a deep d is more important as our loafs are loaded with little speedy pencil necked forwards🤦‍♂️

if you’re talking about a grown man capable of skating in the top 6 like poon jenner or wilson then I’m all ears👍🏿

Chychrun is still there until he is not, I think Dubas is in there.

I think its an unlikely one but in terms of fit and contract its a good one. Gives a lot of breathing from in that last year of his contract when he's gotta re sign Willy and AM with JT still on the books.

- Santo_44

Chychrun's injury woes should concern the Leafs enough to not want to give up a king's ransom for him.

I think they make the trade for that player and it allows Jarnkrok to help be a shut down with Kampf or slide him up if need be. I think if he continues his strong play for a few more weeks it means Dubas won't feel he has to give up too much for a guy he wants.

Benn is our #8 dman, if Muzzin were to return he's 9th. How much depth does one need on the blueline before its pointless. 🤔

The big takeaway from last year's playoffs for me was how bad our bottom six got owned, and how Tampas bottom six owned us. Getting a top six forward strengthens the second line but it also puts Jarnkrok into the bottom six, and that's a big improvement there and creates added depth where it's more imperative at the moment.

I haven’t seen him play much but from what I’ve read he seems more like a Tyson Barrie than a good solid defender. From what I understand he’s not a physical player and just ok in his own end.
