Sure, but JT still one of the better faceoff guys around (Toews is better) - winsix
You can play wing and still take faceoffs....
I think it's a winger most likely Dubas goes after. I don't see the D being changed more than it has really.

I think Knies will be given a chance to make the team before the playoffs. I still see the Leafs still adding a forward, a d-man and possibly a backup plan in goal. With injuries at the end of the season, Leafs will need 8 d-men available for the playoffs.
Rielly,Brodie,Holl, Sandin, Liljegren, Gio, Timmins are ok. Adding one more if the cost is reasonable would be fine. Not sold on Mete, Benn or Hollowell. |

If you aren't trading for a top 4 dman and moving one of those 7 out then there's no point. Mete, benn and hollowell are what you get for dmen 8 - 10. If you take someone else's 6th you'll need to put him on waivers or move someone else, which isn't impossible just I don't see what's the point. Another teams depth dman won't be moving the needle past a mete, benn or Hollowell.
I agree on Knies. However I think the deadline is before NCAA season ends, no? So leafs wouldn't really know where he was going yet. For a back up goalie they will need to look at a minor team deal, again you'd have to go through waivers to take on a NHL goalie playing in the NHL right now.
I think Dubas main concern is likely a winger and then re-assess. I wish he'd make the move sooner than later but I suspect it happens closer to February for cap space and etc.

Hopefully the Golden Gophers don’t make the final four and he gets a few games before playoffs but I think he finds a roster spot.
On the D, I only add if it’s someone who takes the spot of one of the top 4 or 5. I’m not using resources for more depth if there no injuries by the TDL. I like the 7 there and can live with Benn if we get to # 8.

I think it's possible we see more teams go the way of letting kids (even high picks) take time to refine their game and develop for a year or two. NOT everyone is a generational talent and yeah there's hits and misses while drafting but NOT every kid is ready despite the pick position and high praise. I wouldn't even consider letting Bedard start first year after the draft. Sadly the way it works is JR hockey or the big time in some cases...work that ish out NHL |

Ek just went full Ek - Canada Cup
I like Chickrun but Nylander > Chickrun.
Maybe the goalie prospect is Logan Cooley ...then we'd be closer on value. |

That trade proposal is high up on the all-time HB dubious ideas list. And that is saying something. Something bad. |

To be fair, Ek said it sounds like Nylander and Sandin. Easily mixed up with Engvall and Benn. |

Won’t be able to resign willie unfortunately. So move him for something affordable. |

Depends on the player, but a lot of these COVID year prospects will need more time because most missed a ton of time and had to train alone etc. Hell the OHL players missed an entire year. Bedard can't play anywhere else but the NHL. Wallflowers like RNH, McDavid and Hughes all started immediately. |

But there's no need for the trade on Ek's blog, which is ridiculous. |

So trade 2 years of Willie for 4 years of Chychrun who replaces Sandin. If the window is Matthews contract that makes zero sense unless the Chychrun upgrade more than makes up for the loss of Willie. That’s a tough argument to make. |

You can if confident you can re sign Matthews. Can’t have both him and Willie. |

And just which two wingers do we get then to replace Nylander AND fit the other on line 2 with no real money?!
Its Ek. His source is the bottom of the bottle of JD at lunch. Its not a rumor or realistic. |

I’m talking about the next two years - the window we have with Matthews under contract. Losing Nylander for a Sandin to Chychrun upgrade on D weakens the prospects of winning a Cup while Matthews is here. Who knows if it makes Matthews more likely to stay. The upside is that you get Chychrun for two more years. |

If it's Wiilie/Sandin out, Chycrun in, how does the idea of also adding...Bo Horvat....sound?? Are we better? |
