I mean how much better? They outplayed Seattle. The scored 3 goals. They gave up a whooping 22 shots. WTF else do they need to do? They're not a lock down defensive team. They need a few friggen saves instead of swiss cheese.

Grubauer was really good tonight.

Stole the game for the kracken.

Sabres played an exciting upbeat game. Just ran into a solid goaltender tonight

Nothing to say that’s what’s gonna happen either
If u wanna assume the worst, then feel free
That’s not my style though

Goal scores can be streaky
25-30goals is helpful- no matter what games they’re scored in

- jdfitz77

Already said I hope he gets there, but all this on pace crap doesn't mean anything with him. And No that would not be good if he ended the year averaging 1 goal every 10gms especially how he started the first 10-12gms.

Kinda unfortunate cause Comrie was good last year and seems like an overall great guy. I hope he can turn it around but...
- Michael Ghofrani

I have tried to stay positive about Comrie but 3 games in a row he has let in 4 goals

Conditioning in roch and tonight

That is consistency in not a good way

That's the point, there not a lock down defensive team and they know they aren't getting the goaltending they need. Sometimes you have to tweak things to cover for a weakness. Jesus don't let everyone and there mother just stand in front of your net. The 1st goal was a bad rebound but there were 2 Seattle players standing there reading the paper in front of are net.

No I agree and with UPL winning the fans over it puts him in an awkward spot. Not sure what they'll do with him beyond this year.

My exact point, the last 3 games alone you need both hands to count the number of goals scored in tight on our goalies. For as much as I criticize some of our weak Dmen where are the forwards helping out.

Clauge Bryson and Lybuskin are very weak defensively. Clauge and Bryson in front of the net are really bad and weak

I dont think they can bet on that tandem unless there are sweeping changes to the blue line, and the bottom six.

They'll be facing actual expectations next year. UPL is still relatively young and who knows with Comrie. They need some stability in net.

Also highly doubt Portillo signs. Unless you meant Levi.

Sure, work needs to be done
But hopefully it can be

Samuelsson-Dahlin
Power-(Murphy)
(Dumoulin)-Jokiharju
Lyubushkin

I like the idea, but neither of those d-men are platonically good.

Except they don’t
Dumoulin plays about 20min a night for the Pens
And while he’s not what he used to be, play him 15min a night or so & he’d be one of the best 3rd pair defensemen in the league

And you’re literally the only person I’ve heard say that Murphy “sucks”
I’m not saying he’s great, but Power shouldn’t need a “great” partner
Just gotta gong his “Samuelsson”

But if u have better suggestions I’m open to them

Dumoulin's impacts this year look a lot like Clague's. Idk that a reduction in ice time (and by extension a reduction in teammate/partner quality) would actually yield better results.

The third pair doesn't have to be elite, it just can't be guys who clearly don't fit the system (lyubushkin).

I should clarify that in Murphy's case, he's not good relative to the cost to trade for him and carry his cap hit. Chicago turtles a lot on account of having absolutely no NHL talent on that roster (exaggerating for effect). They try to play a lot of low event hockey that inflates the defensive metrics, kind of like Krueger did.

Guys like Severson and Jensen have a longer track record of providing above average value in the top 4 regardless of the system they've played in. I guess if they could get Murphy for cheap sure but Im betting if that were possible Adams/Ventura would have done it this past summer. They should be aiming higher though.

Well idk what analytics you’re clearly looking at,
but it means we most likely won’t agree
So i suppose we can just agree to say an upgrade at RD2 & LD3 would be beneficial to us

I wouldn't call it analytics...more like context for analytics. Personally, I have a strong suspicion that team systems have more of an effect on a defenders underlying numbers than a forwards. Mostly cause analytics uses event level data but we judge defenders a lot on what event they prevented from occurring.

E.g, a defensemen whose defensive metrics look okay on a team that is rush heavy (like the Sabres) is more impressive to me than a defender whose defensive metrics look good on a team that never has their forwards past the red line for half the game.

Id honestly settle for an upgrade to just the third pair entirely for the defense if it meant major moves elsewhere.

I'd be shocked if they made almost any major move anywhere, but especially at forward.

I believe they'll make one, but I suppose it depends on your definition of major.

Major meaning an addition of a player that is considered by all to be of high quality, at either forward or defense.

They've so constantly tried to slow play things while preaching patience and development, that I find it hard to believe they'll pull off a move like that, especially signing a UFA like Severson, for example.

Decent chance they make a devon toews like move that half of buffalo says "who?" to and Id call that major because of the impact I think it would have. I also think slow play is better than saying "I tried but nobody wants to play here right now". I just think they know where the pieces fit better now and are no longer dealing with the stench of the previous era.

How the remainder of this season plays out is going to go a very long way towards that last sentence.

They can buy out Ben Bishop from the Stars so it has been proven that it is time to buy out Comrie. .818 is totally unacceptable. The Sabres should have won this game and would have with UPL. Adams needs to get off his ass and get a decent goalie. How many more years do they need to miss the playoffs. What a jerk!!!
