If Clague is the odd man out on defense, it's not based on performance this season.
I didn't suggest Bryson would get waived. I suggested he would sit the bench, as he did earlier this season.
If it's based on performance, he's earned his benching. - kingcong39
Some of the basis for success has been based on vibes.
The mostly vibes, wanting to be in buffalo and a very very good coach with an exciting system.
Performance is for the other 31 teams.
Vibes is for the Sabres
Bryson is a vibes guy that lives with mitts and neat dahlin.
They ain't getting waived.... |

Only one way to find out about Clague: Play him on the 3rd pair when Jokiharju returns.
That means waiving Fitzgerald, and sitting one of Bryson or Lyubushkin, as both have not been good.
I've seen enough from Clague so far that indicates it's not just Power that is making him look good. - kingcong39

Problem with your idea is that they tried Asplund at Center on that line (w Girgs & Okposo) at the start of the season- & it wasn’t working
They even tried with Girgs at Center & Asplund on the wing
That line didn’t get going till Krebs was moved down to Center it
So, not that I’m opposed to giving it another shot,
but idk that the Sabres would actually consider it? - jdfitz77
Here are the most common checking lines:
Girgs, Jost, Okposo- 67.6% xGF%
Girgs, Krebs, Asplund- 65%
Girgs, Krebs, Okposo- 42.6%
Certainly didn't take Krebs to get them going.
Asplund, Girgs, and Okposo played two games together. It was 62%, but didn't include it because it's only 2 games, but saying it wasn't working isn't fair either.
Swapping Krebs and Jost was trying to help the Mitts line, not improving the Girgs line. |

Agreed on all counts. There isn't a single jerkoff on the team. They are all likable and seem to love each other. Also, unlike 20 years ago when I would see Vanek, Max, Miller, Campbell, Peters, Mair, et al out on Chippewa Street regularly, these guys are watching hockey and playing video games together. I think that bodes well for them long term. Love seeing our superstar married with family. Love seeing Krebs getting hitched. Buffalo isnt a great city for guys who want to be bachelors, but WNY is steal to raise a young family opposed to NYC or Chicago etc. - lacaprup

Is Fitzgerald a vibes guy?
He's the most obvious candidate to get waived, isn't he?
Speaking of vibes, they didn't let vibes get in the way of claiming and then playing Jost over big time vibes guy Vinnie, did they? |

Agreed. This one is so glaring that I'm not sure they even have a choice.

Not that it would make a huge difference but you really should be looking at relative expected goal %.
Sabres as a whole have been getting crushed some games in xg% but are getting saves and have elite shooting talent.
Over the last 11 games (was looking last night) the xgf% leader is Skinner at 51% |

I will take it a step further
leave Clague with Power
let Joker play 3rd pair with one of the others |

It's more business now. Delaware North's corporate HQ is where BadaBings used to be. It's more bar/restaurants now.
The days of crowds of people from 67 West to the Barrel House are done. |

I agree with ya
Imo, if we were gonna trade Olofsson, add one of our extra 2nds & get an upgrade
Don’t just trade Olofsson for a 3rd or another 2nd or whatever
That wouldn’t make sense to me
He’s a goal scorer- and NOT a “PP specialist”
Olofsson should have decent value
There’s always teams looking for scoring - jdfitz77
To me, the interesting thing about Mitts and Olo is when to trade them.
When they're playing bad and their value is depressed is when many are suggesting to trade them...as is the case for the past 45 days or so...you know when there weren't producing regular and giving up scoring chances like a $2 whore on the corner.
Now, for 3 games the streaky players have found some gold and the suggestions to trade them are ridiculed...can't give up that offense on the highest scoring team in the NHL.
What's the right answer?
To me, play them and keep building their value. Make the decision during offseason when hockey trades are far more common place. There are holes on this team that our pipeline won't address very soon in D and G (Levi and Portillo are probably 2 - 3 seasons away IMO). The pipeline (Kulich more specifically) and internal future growth of Krebs, Quinn, Peterka, Cozens suggest strongly the team can absorb the loss of their goalscoring ... not the same at D outside of Johnson. |

Fiztgerald = vibes
That's why the obvious decision is being second guessed. With me anyways.
Just an opinion but they need to send 2 guys to waivers right?
Comrie and joker?
In order:
Clague
Fitz
Asplund
Vinny hinny

So if it's true that Bryson is roomies with a few of the guys... Ugh. This dude does NOTHING for me. Nothing. He isn't better than Clague, Lybushkin, Fitzgerald... He's so timid, it's infuriating.
I cannot stand him.
There are 3 guys on the team who are far and away a larger detriment than they are a benefit:
Jacob Bryson is a -15
Casey Mittelstadt is a -9 (and that's after last night's performance where despite having 3 assists, he was only +2)
Victor Olofsson is a -7 (again, after last night's game where he was +3)
I know people write off +/- stats but there are 3 guys who are scored on way more often than they score.
I can give more time to Mitts. He is on pace for 50 points and if he turns into a 50-60 point guy, I couldn't ask for more from him.
Olofsson is a 30 goal scorer. He is incredibly streaky but 30 goals is 30 goals.
Bryson literally doesn't do anything. Buy him some concrete shoes and send him sea-worthy. |

Good post ion
What if mitts gets 50-55 points and olo 25-30 goals this season. We're about half way thru.
What if we make the playoffs with mitts / olo?
Why change success?
The vibes are really vibing....
Olo/assplund/dahlin are extremely close swede friends
Mitts/ bryson/ dahlin also buddies

This is a very good post.
-15 is terrible, plain and simple.
Thing is, most teams have a spot or 2 for development.
I think bryson falls under the development/vibes position with the franchise.
Clague looks to have passed bryson on the ice, but the Sabres could still be looking at the future? |

Are any of clague, Bryson, joker or boosh waiver exempt?
No, I dont believe so.
Clague has indeed looked good. I just think its power, making him look good.
I cant see any senario where the Sabres keep less than 3 goalies. So that opens 2 waiver spots.
Neither of which is Bryson IMO.
Bryson may deserve demotion, but I think he sticks. |
