Shoutout to any of yall who along with me was constantly calling out Kevin on the weird schizophrenic nature of using another account with "lawyer" in the name to puff himself up all the time.

Will be interesting to hear more about what's up.

Guy sounds like a creep. Hopefully a new blogger can be found.

So after beating up on Chabot the boys at TSN expressed their enthusiasm for Joseph coming back into the lineup and showing the form and energy he exhibited last year after the trade deadline as if those eleven games were truly representative of that player's overall body of work.

Talk about guys having their finger on the pulse!

I was away all weekend working with no access to a tv or internet. Sounds like Sens were pretty flat. Sens are 8 points out of playoff spot with 2 games in hand. Weird season. But the runway well shorten significantly over the next couple of weeks. Sens need to string together multiple consecutive wins.

The most annoying thing from DJ Smith is when the Sens get beat he always says, "We had no legs". Like, it ain't always the legs man, change your approach when you're being outclassed. Teams figure out what you're doing and they counter it, it he never change their gameplan. It's infuriating.

A chabot trade could reap the benefits of long term success with this club. If done properly. It would also send a loud msg to the players, this is a business of winning.
Does dorion have the guts to do it? Does dorion have the intelligence to pull it off succesfully?
The winter of dorion.

Chabot, Batherson and Norris plus the first round pick unprotected for Kane and Toews. This brings in some players who are good enough to play with DeBrincat and sign him at the bargain price of 9.5 x 8.

Since DeBrincat is going to be your first line LW you need to think about getting rid of Tkachuk and his 8 million dollar cap hit.

Another possibility would be to try to sucker the Leafs into giving up Simmonds in exchange for Chabot and a first if the Sens retain 50% of salary. That would give the Sens the toughness they need.

I keep forgetting that I have to put in a sarcasm alert for some of you guys. What are you? Like six years old!

I think they have way overshot the runway and are in the lake right now. There are like six teams between them and a wild card spot. I will watch with some curiosity to see when or even if you put aside your playoff talk for this year. They are just not deep enough to play through injuries to key players in their lineup and on top of that a couple of stupid trades.

Kane and Toews would do nothing for Ottawa.

Batherson is a dream cap wise. Norris is a top 2 center on a cup contender

Trading Chabot is not an option. He is doing WAY too much and when he does, he makes mistakes. He is a solid #2 D-man and needs a solid D-man to develop like Sanderson to take the pressure off of him. Still ottawa needs to improve their RIGHT side of the D badly!!

I could have gone into detail as to why but wrongly assumed we are all aware of details.
Well , actually you hit a very good point with your reply regarding all those players. Is the overall construction of this team good ? . We best hope it is, because change isn't welcomed.

They were losing when Joseph WAS in the line-up.

They do miss Motte though.
And now Zub.
And still Norris.

This board likes to take everything seriously (sarcasm is hard to do with text).

We should bring back Phaneuf. He'd at least be better than Zaitsev... Maybe.

I don't think this team is in the business of trading anybody currently signed with a salary over.... (checks Zaitsev's salary) 4.5M a year. Really anybody below that who isn't on an ELC is fair game. So if we fall out, Kelly, Watson, Gambrell, Brass, Hamonic, Holden, Brannstrom, both goalies are fair game.

What amazes me is that I can't think of anything ridiculous enough that some people won't take it seriously.

Strangely there are talking heads at TSN who have already started to nibble at the idea of trading Chabot. I can't remember which segment on which day so don't ask me but it is unbelievable to me that anybody would even remotely consider that idea let alone those clowns at TSN.

No it's not hard to do! If I say trade Chabot, Batherson, Norris and an unprotected first for Kane and Toews I can't imagine anyone in their right mind not seeing that as so obviously absurd that I actually have to say I'm just kidding.

I was addressing the ridiculous notion that trading Chabot is insane. I know people have been peddling the idea that Sanderson is their best Dman and two years from now that might be the case and if that happens it will be fantastic. I want to see Sanderson play 27+ minutes a game with Zaitsev as his partner for a few years before I make that determination.

Fortunately that won't happen and personally I don't see Sanderson as being Norris trophy quality which is good because you won't need to pay him Norris trophy money and instead can use that money to bring in quality players to fill out your D and your bottom six and your top six when you get rid of DeBrincat who will only be a millstone around this team's neck if they extend him. Trade that bugger for a bag of pucks if you can find a taker.

I'm unsure about the perceived need for a major upgrade on the blue line. At the start of the year there was uncertainty about how much of a role Sanderson could walk into as a rookie, and whether Zub would re-sign. This made a very clear case for the addition of a significant top-4D, but at this point I'm not as certain about the right path forward. Some people are convinced that Sanderson will need a ~$7M AAV RFA extension*, which means in the very near future they'll have over $19M committed to their top-3D. And in looking around the NHL, it's hard to see very many examples of teams exceeding that level of $$$ or quality, even on Cup-quality rosters.

TB - Hedman, Sergachev, Cernak (~$21M)
BOS - McAvoy, Lindholm, Carlo (~$20M)
NYR - Fox, Trouba, Lindgren (~$20M)
VGK - Pietrangelo, Theodore, Martinez (~$19M)
COL - Makar, Girard, Toews (~$18M)
TOR - Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin (~$18M)
OTT - Chabot, Sanderson, Zub (~$19M)* (if Sanderson ~$7M AAV)

Which begs the question... are Chabot, Sanderson & Zub good enough as a top-3D for the team to be competitive? If not, well they should be addressing that ASAP. If is is good enough, they also have Bernard-Docker & Thomson making their NHL transition, and Kleven likely on his way very soon. That's as good as most NHL teams in terms of young D-men with 2nd/3rd pairing upside, so it would seem they don't really need another big-name D-man (e.g. Chychrun, Dumba), so much as maybe a solid #4/5 guy to help stabilize the 2nd pairing, and help transition JBD or Thomson into a larger RHD role.

Given the premium cost of acquiring a top-4D and their existing cap issues, it just feels like there may be a growing chance of them extending Hamonic in order to serve as that transitional player. I'm not saying it's a great idea per se, but it makes sense on some very fundamental levels given that he's developed pretty good chemistry with Sanderson and plays a lot of PK minutes, which is something they'll lose with Holden/Zaitsev.

Another good post. Since Kevin seems to be gone I would like to nominate you as someone who can at least occasionally create a thread for the Sens people. I think it's a giant pain to do this regularly and I certainly wouldn't want to do it even if I was qualified which I'm not but maybe it can be shared with others. Octavarium comes to mind for instance.

Don't know how it works but I like the thread and would like to keep it alive.

That's just too friggin stupid an interpretation. My god. Talbot has been disliked by every team he's played for and eventually Ottawa is going to find out why.
