hmm maybe the defense that was working so well should still be playing, should still be in there. Instead oh this guys back add him and remove the other guy and then add the next guy.. why leave as is and have the injured player work there way back in like team's with a good coaching staff

Toronto fans hate offensive defencemen. Why is nobody saying anything about Gio’s game last night? He was -3 and and was completely out of it in the goal that everyone is burning Rielly for. It’s not that Rielly has been great since he’s been back but the idea that it’s his fault when the team and goalies haven’t been very good is really dumb.

He’s better than Timmins. - Canada Cup
Not true at all, such a cop out.
I think they hate dmen who are really bad at defense. Morgan is bad defensively, elite with the puck, but baaaaad without it.
Also murray was really bad last night, cant blame anyone but him on his play.
I did some backreading as I was away from the board for a bit, wondering if anyone had ever seen or conversed with the poster I have never seen who appears to have just decided to drop in to 'talk hockey'?
I don't see him here....shame. - Cush29
Sorry if I’m late to join the party.
Just too busy with all the crap going on with my Canucks. What would you like to talk about?

82 game season is a grinding marathon all teams go through a rough patch not named the Bruins so far.
Plenty of time for 1 of the goalies to be more steady. Just a rough patch that both are going through at the same time. The skaters could pick them up a bit better. Nobody goes 82-0.

Which might be an interesting argument if he was baaaaaaaaad without the puck. He’s better offensively but he’s not really bad at defence. That’s such a cop out. Why do people say? I’ve never understood why someone having a different opinion than you is somehow a cop out.

Rielly is an outstanding skater, he can really pass the puck, his aversion to shooting the puck hurts the Leafs. It's probably the main reason Leafs trying 5 forwards on the PP. If the opposition knows you will pass no matter what, easier to pick one off.

I believe they started the 5 forwards while he was injured and added Bunting, a guy not really known for his shot. It doesn’t seem to be working that well yet. The Leafs have never really gone for a boomer from the point. The only “shooter” they used for a while was Sandin and they didn’t stick with that. They seem more focused on controlling the puck and looking for opportunities to get it to Matthews or Nylander from the slot or JT in front. Rielly and Marner (last year) as skaters/passers distributed. It worked.
The biggest problem I have with the PP right now is that it seems too stationary. Bunting/JT have their spots and there doesn’t seem to be enough movement from the rest to create chaos among the defenders.

Aspects of the possession game are excellent, it seems to me that going overboard with the concept makes Leafs predictable and easy to trap against. Waiting it out for the perfect shot also simplifies things for the opposing goalie. Shoot more and pass less is what I would like to see. Drive the net when you can, get someone on the point that can blast it. Make the opposing goalie work
