the comparables you can use to temper the Bedard hype is Puljujärvi, at 17 he had 17 points (2.4/gm)
Laine 13 (2.1/gm)

Mcdavid had 11, crosby 9

Bedard 23 (3.2/gm)

- senstroll

Pul played with Aho and Laine and clearly wasn’t driving the line. He got a lot of points against crappy teams.

They mopped the floor with some random team yesterday though. Must be doing something Wright.
- Scabeh

If anyone would know what it looks like to see one team have the floor mopped by another it would be a Habs fan.

the big difference with all those players you mention is they were not 17
hayton was drafted in 2018 and had 12 points at the 2020 tourn.
Schenn was 19 when he had 18 points

- senstroll

I get that. He is younger and still has some growing/maturing to do but still was the best player in the tournament.

No doubt he is talented. I think the hype machine is wound up and in full force on him. I don't disagree that he's going to be a good NHL player, just don't like some of the comparisons I've seen going around.

Not sure if you're a card collector or not, but his cards are skyrocketing past McDavid levels right now.

He isn't.

The kid looked awesome out there but the hype is ridiculous. His shot is not better than a number of other NHLers and he is going to have to overcome his size.

I don't see how you label someone "generational" before they have played an NHL game.

- Aetherial

Serious question:

How many players can be “generational” in a ten year window?

Maybe we should retire the "generational" adjective as it is subjective AF?

He's doing his part in the tanking strategy.

A true soldier, sacrificing his NHL career for the cause.

at the moment he only has chl/junior cards, he wont have his first true RC until next fall most likely. And yes, it will be on fire also. So far any of the other players talked about in the same way have been good long term $$ holds. Crosby/Mcdavid, and also Matthews have all 3x+ in value from when they first came out.

ill be grabbing a few for sure

If we’re using true definitions of the terms, I guess half a player since a generation is considered to be 20-30 years. Maybe in sports, you could use the average length of a career as a generation and use that. People like to label the “greats” as generational players. Maybe you can have a few in one period and none in another. I don’t know the exact rules from the Generational Talent Committee but names like Gretzky, Orr, Crosby, McDavid seem like locks and arguments can be made about others like Jagr, Ovi, Matthews

A lot of the comparisons are coming from scouts who assess talent and make projections for a living. As Dozzer says, they don’t guarantee how he’ll pan out but they provide an understanding of what he brings

Can we still use the terms great, good, ok, meh, poopty, Holl-esque when describing subjectively describing players.

edit: hopefully the return of really(?) jogged some memories as to how terrible he is at leading a defense corpse🤦‍♂️

i for one am tired of being beholden to the whims of over paid, coddled losers who don’t obtain results yet have mlse management by the stacking swivel🤦🏿‍♂️

i guess our laffs didn’t feel like displaying any defensive intensity last night🤦‍♂️

this still seems a systemic rot that we had hoped that the shanaplan would solve🤦🏿‍♂️

i think that a metric needs to be established in this forum by which we can gauge progress beyond a first or second round loss👍

it seems as though winning the cup has become an afterthought and perhaps we’d like to see the big 4 win trophies?👍🏿

i’ve been unsure for a few years 🤔

special laff adjective: rayzesque: when you are the best rookie goalkeeper in the world so the laffs trade the best goalkeeper in the world for you then you end up doing color for someone😭

Although I said perhaps the slow roll should be applied to Bedard...

I'm reminded of the Russo / Franseca diatribe on Shotime when he 1st came over and had a rough spring training and both were saying the jankees were lucky to not get him and how he couldn't hit High school pitchers and such .. that gets played endlessly on loop everytime shotime abuses MLB at both hitting and pitching..

Bedard could be doing that soon also. Perhaps.

Usually I can decode your poetry, but stacking swivel eludes me.

The Leafs are winning it all this year.

Which team is more doomed to another decade minimum of mediocrity and irrelevance, Calgary or Vancouver? It's hard to pick, they are both so hopelessly dysfunctional.
