I don’t think anyone disagrees with that. But the kid is smashing records set by all of the best of the best players. I doubt he plays in the nhl at 5’ 10”. He will likely grow a bit more. Who knows. I’d say it’s still a good bet that he’s a star. Generational? Won’t know for a while yet.

pretty sure that was done with Mcdavid and Crosby. you could tell they were special and in a tier of their own. Bedard so far does look a couple notches above everyone...at 17. also good to look at things in context of the draft class. Is it a good crop overall? thats what is being said, up there with 2015.

Scouts assess the skills and to a certain extent the drive of these kids. They do it all the time and do it for a living. Some have said he has generational offensive talent. Others have pegged him at a Patrick Kane level - very, very high end skills that turned into an amazing NHL career.

You can assess what he is with some accuracy but obviously you can only speculate as to what he becomes. Guaranteeing the next Gretzky is as silly as denying how good the kid really is.

I think it would be fun if ended up in Anaheim.

I agree with the above. He looked great in the tournament.....but so did guys like Jordan Eberle, Max Domi, Barret Hayton, and Brayden Schenn. Now, these guys are good NHLers, and I'm not trying to necessarily compare Bedard to them.

I always said Jake Gardnier should have been moved up to play wing.

Remember when Big Buff would play D one game and wing the next, that would be such a nice type of player to have provided they are good at both positions.

I think the Leafs did that with Ian White a bit as well before he eventually just became a D man.


Tough go for White, he is playing hockey in the Fed league now which is fairly impressive considering he didn't play pro hockey from 2015-2021!

This is a long but interesting story about what happened to White - I'm glad to see he is back playing pro hockey, he's only 38! I always liked him when he was a Leaf.

the big difference with all those players you mention is they were not 17
hayton was drafted in 2018 and had 12 points at the 2020 tourn.
Schenn was 19 when he had 18 points
