I’m leaning more and more towards just dumping whatever we can between the TDL and the draft. We have some good players under contract with term. We have a good defense and elite goaltending. I assume Ledecky and Malkin would have to be sold on this idea. Try to get into the top 5 of the draft. Target and actually succeed in signing a free agent or god forbid even two. The problem is players like Bailey and clutterbuck who have that extra year. Zero teams are taking anyone with any term at the TDL. Kind of painted ourselves in a corner again with that…
I’m more or less suggesting a mini rebuild. The problem is I don’t think it’s ever worked for any team - Cptmjl
Stepping back for a retool isn't the worst idea, the problem is that there's really not a whole lot of places that they can trim the fat
The players that they could afford to lose are worth very little, if anything
Beau is about the only tradeable asset they have that might land them some assets and I'm not really even sure about that |

It’s even more tiring when you see the game against Pitt last week. The 2nd period the other night. The game vs the Canes early in the season. The comebacks, etc.
Pelech being out hurts a ton, you can’t sugarcoat that, but it’s maddening to see them play the way they seemingly can at times and then see them play like they’re watching the games themselves.
I mean, what’s the definition of insanity? Haven’t these guys figured out yet passing the puck 7 or 8 times around the zone doesn’t work? That the puck that dribbles over the goal line counts the same as a tic-tac-toe passing play or a 100mph laser? - potvin05
100% and I acknowledged that in another post. Problem is they were playing the same way with him in the lineup. |

I think they will be riding the bubble all the way to the end of the season. - JimmyP
I think you’re probably right which is exactly why I said lameriello needs to make a decision on the direction of the team asap. I think we both know we’re more then likely going to be the same team in March |

This team isn't good enough to win or bad enough to lose for a top 5 pick. I said earlier this year that this was the year to tank. Montreal is in the driver's seat with their lottery pick and Florida's unprotected one right now. Isles have bad term on deals and not much to trade so thet are stuck in a rut that's going to take a while to get out of |

It’s been like Russian roulette all season with them. One night, they’re lights out, the next night, they look like the worst team in the league. Sorokin has really kept some of these games much closer than they have any business being. |

Yep which is exactly what I said
IF Lameriello decides this is another lost season(not holding my breath) we could get something for Beau at the TDL. At this point just get something/anything for the kid. Resigning him would be moronic if he’s still playing like this. Even if he goes on a little streak is that really who we want long term in our top 6? He’s playing like this in a contract year. I like Mayfield but if we’re out of it he’s definitely our most tradeable asset. If there is a couple of teams involved we could get a decent haul for him imo.
With this said you and I both know this team is going to continue its mediocrity with the hopes of squeaking in because too many people within the organization still think we’re some playoff juggernaut. That to me is far from anything I’d wager on. Couple that with Ledecky and Malkin wanting that playoff cheddar and this will most certainly continue on the same trajectory…
So all of this is for naught but it’s something to talk about after being subjected to another trash can game from this club. |

Without Sorokin this team would legit be in the Bedard sweeps. Having a great goaltender bail out their team when needed is a great thing. When that goaltender has to bail out the team nightly it’s painting a very different picture. |

Pelech is really missed, but this is way beyond not having Pelech.

I mean, Shesterkin on the all-star team over him is a (frank)ing joke. |

I agree but to be fair the all star game is a joke. Haven’t watched one in years. |

Really what I was getting at was that Sorokin has been our best player, by far I may add, and how the people who picked the first 8 players couldn’t see that is bananas to me. I know Barzal and Nelson are putting up a point a game but c’mon. |

No argument about the first part, but (I think?) the team selects the one player to send so they probably figured that Sorokin was a shoe-in for one of the goalie spots so might as well choose between Nelson or Barzal.
Frankly, Dobson is probably deserving as well...but not holding my breath on that one.
Also, the All-Star game stinks and I just can't get all worked up about who goes/doesn't go |

All-Star game is unwatchable and the Islanders have much bigger issues.

It's a waste of time. I wish no Islander would go. Stay home and rest up. |
