You talking now or next year?

offseason

Cozens, Dahlin, and Power deals would make a hell of statement

Sabres are going to run into contract limit issues in the next year or so if they continue to make all their picks.

I’d have no issue moving one of the 2nds and a minor prospect or 3rd rounder for a push this year

- sbroads24

When good teams run into contract issues they find farm teams like the Buffalo Sabres to take a contract. Talking about the salary cap is for bad GMs.

There's no need to rush a deal on power. Dahlin and Cozens are a must

There are ways around that, such as drafting players that will take a while to get here. They've got plenty of roster spaces considering I don't think too many people are worried about losing Murray, Weissbach, etc.
- Slump Buster

But why would we want to do that? We’re pretty much competitive right now

When does punting everything down the road stop?

No there isn't with Power, but it could be a good way to save a bit of Money down the Road.

I agree, but what makes you think kyle at 31/32 years old is gonna want to retire?

He's been healthy mostly.

If he wants to return, they can't say no to the team captain.

After spinning everything to have buffalo look positive.

- Boss34

Kyle is 34 and will be 35 in April, time to hang'em up

Yeah I doubt that. It's very easy to ship away low end assets for little to nothing. Make your picks, make good trades. Hitting the 50 should be priorty 10000

Tage 13 points away from career high and the season isn't half over.

I guess I don’t get what benefit getting rid of guys for free would be as opposed to making a push during a historic year for a few of the guys that are playing this season.

A very large chunk of this roster is locked in for the immediate and foreseeable future.

Dahlin
Power
Samuelsson

Thompson
Tuch
Skinner
Cozens
Quinn
JJ
Mitts (team and coaches love him)
Krebs

Then you would assume Kulich and Savoie lock in

I checked Hockey Reference to see where Mogilny was at after 36 games in 92/93. I counted 41!

Why am I giving guys away for free as opposed to improving my team?

Sounds really dumb

Imagine that deal would be around 8x9m. Would either side do it?
- Lunaion

What's the Dahlin extension going to be?

8 years at close to $11M per?

After the Tage and Samuelsson deals, I wouldn't be so sure about not expecting them to make a deal.

That isn't "punting" at all. I think GMKA is more then willing to move assets in a hockey trade. He would move them for Chicken man, just not Savoie. I don't see him moving anything for a pending UFA that will require big money. If he can't make a hockey trade he isn't going to run into a roster crunch.

That's not really what I'm trying to say.

I hear you and I agree with you, but if you have 51/50 contracts because you've got some slouch named Vaclav Karabacek sitting on your payroll, you can handle something like that.

Yeah I get that.

But it also leads to guys like Brandon Hagel slipping through the cracks because you’re forced to make decisions on a bevy of draft picks

That isn't why he slipped. They just didn't think he was good enough. The next team didn't either.

Let's not pretend Botts had his back against a wall and simply couldn't sign Brandon Hagel. He made that conscience decision with no pressure.

He showed a lot of promise in juniors and deserved the time to develop in the minors. That's not hindsight.

Him and Josh Bloom are/were very similar players in their style. Two different GMs but one was afforded 3 years in Rochester and the other one was thrown away for no good reason.
