At my son's hockey... My first thought looking at the score was that we had bad D again with Suspect Sammy in net? The comments seem to echo that...

A bit more B than A but no real shortage of either. A couple of saves and it’s a very different game

Im a Sammy supporter, I'm in the get him extended now while we may get a reasonable rate camp.

That being said, he's blown tonight.

The team in front of him has been dog poop too, it just doesn't change that he's blown tonight. Binnington has been trash, Sammy could have had a poop night and still been winning 4-3 if he could have even stopped even the two worse ones.

One of those nights...

Yes, aside from all the goals he looked horrible on. He's been well hung out to dry don't get me wrong, but a few bad rebounds and clear whiffs hasn't helped his cause.

All the goals he looked horrible on? Are you saying literally all of the Blues goals?

I think he is 100% terrible on the shortie the broadcasters seemed to want to yap about Marner on (and Elliot said it in the intermission - gotta stop that) but aside from
That I don’t know that I’d pin any of the other goals on Sammy?

Maybe the scrambly one he didn’t get to the rebound on but his guys didn’t help at all on that one (or any of them really).

I mean Leafs have 4 goals on 16 shots Blues have 5 on 23. This has been a pretty sloppy defensive game on both sides to me.

Not a great goaltending performance either way but I don’t feel like there are a lot of terrible goals against.

The first and 4th (I think) were pretty blatant whiffs, if he controls his rebound the scrambly one also doesn't happen. He got walked by Josh Leivo, that's the sign you're not having a good night. 🤣

I'm not saying they've all been on him. I'm basically saying that he could have had an iffy night and still be playing with the lead. He's not, and he's probably as accountable as the defensive play in front of him.

You also can't expect him to be immaculate in all his starts. Also, .830 sv% over last 3 starts needs to be better.

Ah ok all fair points. The one thing I think we all forget sometimes (ok maybe not me because of goalie bias) is that if you give an NHL player (yes even Josh Levo) time and space to shoot with minimal pressure they will score 99% of the time. I think about the goal tonight where the Blues player walked down Broadway uncontested and roofed it.

Sure a 5 bell save would be nice there but if your playing a style that requires a lot of those saves to win you’ve got a problem.

Side note - Sammy made 2 of those in the first on the same play but that’s really the only one of those he has made tonight.

This is not a “goalie duel” by any means more like 80’s hockey!!

Full disclosure, I was late getting home from work. St Louis had 7 shots by the time I got the game on, perhaps he made some good ones I missed there.

But the 5 goals I did see on 19 shots or so were largely unimpressive, a couple/few I'd expect him to have for sure.

I have confidence he'll be better most nights than I've seen tonight. Life goes on, it's a tie game. He gets the dub here and any potential sins will be immediately forgotten about.

Sammy has been losing his position and has just been generally awkward for his last bunch of starts. He looks off even on his saves. He’s battling and I like that they’re keeping him in to fight for the win. He’s made good saves in between his weak moments and they’re going to need him so let him work it out.
