The Leafs have to figure out 1 year, that Tavares is under contract, and nylander on his new contract. tavares is off contract after that one year overlap. my guess is tavares re-signs, on a shorter, very very team friendly contract (he's made his money), and the savings from him allow the team to sort out some improvements.

Hopefully Marner and Matthews aren't still trying to get every cent they can, and aren't looking for raises.

Agree goaltending has regressed. More noticeable with Samsonov than Murray TBH - he's been lousy last few starts. One thing that has been consistent is that Leafs are a possession team that has the fewest shots per minute of possession in the league. On one of those 20 pass possessions, bound to be one pass that is either behind a player or right into their skates. At the same time, if completely healthy of body and mind, he's a very good player signed at an interesting number for 2 more years.

You have to start with McDavid. If you’re building your own team, probably go with the two Cs (him and Matthews) plus a D (Ekblad) even though the Swiss is getting pretty damn good.

Why on earth would a team that is in the hunt to select Bedard or Fantilli jepordize that to pick up an expensive reclamation project? Ducks are getting a high pick, if Verbeek does anything, he should be trading vets for picks asap.

Keep him ...he's worth all of that. If he's demanding 10+ then you've got to rethink the options.

They can afford to have 34 and 88 at about 15 and 9.5 in 2 years and keep the current band (minus Muzzin and maybe Kerfoot) together.

Gaudreau at 9.75 might be a good 'ceiling' for 88 negotiations?
