How do you outshoot the caps 16-4 and get nothing. Then the caps wake up and are up 2-0 now

He was really very composed all night. He looked like a veteran playing his game rather than trying to force the play.

Sens get dominated by the Bruins in shot count but squeeze out a win in a shoot out. Sens dominate Capitals in shot count but need overtime to squeeze out a win.

Will Sens finish December +.500?

Not many players that have the soft, quick hands Timmy displayed on his goal against Washington.

If he stays healthy watch for Timmy to grow his game over the rest of the season.

Sens have 8-3-2 record for December. They have taken 18 out of a possible 26 points. If they can maintain the December pace over the balance of the season they will finish with 100 points.

Islanders and Rangers are fighting for last wild card. They are both on pace to finish season with 97 points.

Making the playoffs is an overrated measure for young rebuilding teams. But you want your team to be in the conversation after Christmas. Conversation is great if you are leading the race for Conor Bedard. Conversation is good if your games after Christmas matter in terms of contending with a chance of winning every night.

Sens matter. They are part of the conversation. It has been a long time. It is a good feeling.

You have to thank Giroux for willing the team to win that game.

Timmy is the goods.

How about the diminutive DeBrincat figuring out the goal scoring thing. 'Magine that?

No parades planned, but the kids are fun to watch.

A good game overall. JBD looked solid which is just what the doctor ordered for the blueline. Hopefully he'll be consistent and negate the need for looking for a top 4 D through a trade or the UFA market. Doesn't mean you don't do it if you get an offer you can't refuse but you're not desperate.

That diving pass interception by Giroux was great and then the Stutzle goal was good to see.

Happy to see DeBrincat has found the net and made no mistake on the nice feeds by Pinto and then Giroux.

Chabot at almost 29 minutes after 31 minutes against Boston. What deep resources that guy has!

Talbot made some terrific saves but I wish he wouldn't always let in the soft ones. They've been the bane of his career forever.

Fun game to watch.

Even during the game, when they were down, I was thinking: "they have a chance at this".

Something felt a little different than what we've seen so many times before. Just one game, but curious to see if this continues. Seeing a guy like Stu or Debrinicat coming in on net and you are optimistic that a goal may come.

Goaltending is certainly something the Senators will need to contemplate for next season.

I view Talbot as a veteran presence and a single season stop gap who, at 37 and nearing the end of his career, will most likely see free agency or retirement next season.

Forsberg has two more years at a decent cap hit. He is serviceable but I am not sure he is able to take a team deep into a playoff run.

It will be interesting to see how Sogaard, Merilainen and company develop.

I'm increasingly believing this as well, and I can't say that I disagree with the approach. The team is at the point where they need to start relying on the depth of the prospect pool to address major team needs, especially when they've already invested multiple 1st/2nd round picks into developing a relatively deep collection of supporting talent. So it really shouldn't be the moon landing to develop one of Bernard-Docker, Thomson, Brannstrom, or Kleven into a serviceable #4D-man... any more than it should be a chore to let the likes of Greig, Ostapchuk, and Boucher take over 3rd line roles in the coming 1-2yrs.

It's also why I disagree with the idea of trading DeBrincat. I mean if he won't sign a reasonable extension then sure, you have to do what you have to do - but the addition of him and Giroux have provided the team with a far clearer sense of identity and structure. Cut as much salary as necessary from the useless depth D (Zaitsev, Hamonic) and replaceable checking line players (Joseph, Watson), finish paying off the $5M of dead money to old buyouts next year, and use bridge deals as much as possible with guys like Pinto, JBD, Brannstrom, etc. so the salary cap has a chance to increase as well.

Saw great post by Jason York this morning. During last night's game I wondered why does Timmy seem to be so dangerous when he attacks the blue line and seems have an easy entry.

Stuzle was as dominant as I’ve seen him tonight. When he has the puck entering the zone, he forces D to back in & makes entries look easy. Some clever takeaways & really good compete level. Turning just 21 soon, he has a chance to be a top 5 player in the league eventually.

I can't imagine anyone advocating trading DeBrincat except for his refusal to sign a fair contract. He is young enough to fit into Sens group that will become serious contenders. People just don't get how young and good this team is.

The Sens got the best two players out of a draft (Timmy and Sandy). Sounds like a duo from a 70's beach movie. And, there is so much more to come.

DeBrincat and Giroux make Dorion appear like a genius.

Still not sold on JBD. Less about him being good enough. More about the need for some size and nasty on the back end.

Saw a redraft of 2020 where it was proposed that Sanderson would be #1 overall and Stutzle #2. If Sanderson had been born a month later he would have been in the 2021 draft.

Lafreniere was a healthy scratch last night,

Byfield is playing on the periphery if the Kings roster.

2020 was just a monster draft for the Sens.

Funny how quickly the talk of that draft has shifted.

I recall the debates on here about Laf being the bonified first overall, and then it was Byfield vs Stuzle, and some wondering if Byfield's size gave him an edge in junior that wouldnt be there in the NHL.

Then after the draft there was talk of Drysdale vs Sanderson, with Drydale getting more clout for entering the league first. Perhaps a reverse of the Stuzle vs Byfield talk.

Raymond is a wildcard though. He looked good in his first year.

Still early, but looking like a great first two picks. Curious to see how Grieg develops.

I think the plan has always been for JBD to slot in around this time in the team's development. It would be great if he can do that, even if he isn't the long term plan.

Size and nastiness can be maybe addressed elsewhere, the team would love for Kleven to be able to do some of that at some point.

Chabot Zub
Sanderson JBD
Kleven Thomson

Makes sense. Multiple NHL elite Dmen are averaging 25 minutes per game. Sanderson is starting to play a larger role with more minutes. But even though Sanderson's minutes are going up, Chabot's are not coming down. Maybe 5 and 6 will be getting under 10 minutes a night in highly situational roles.

Apparently Rangers are taking calls on Lafreniere. They are asking for 1st in return.

Skating seems to be his issue.

He is not a fit on the Sens 1st or 2nd line. He would be a 3rd liner. I don't think the Sens have any interest.
