A scout's analysis of Canada's WJC roster including the 4 Hawk prospects on the roster. https://www.sportsnet.ca/...is-of-canadas-wjc-roster/
- Mr Ricochet

So happy to read this:

Nolan Allan
Team: Seattle, WHL
Drafted: Chicago Blackhawks, 32nd overall in 2021

There isn’t much flash to Allan’s game. He’s a big (6-foot-2, 201-pound) defenceman who leans shutdown “D." We might see Allan used on one of the penalty-killing units. The coaches know what they are getting when he spills over the boards. He gets from point A to point B, chips pucks up ice and provides a physical presence.

The hope is Allan is the next Hjalmersson and if not a competent NHL shutdown guy with size and an edge to his games....... I've liked what I've seen of Allan but especially that he knows what his role is and plays to it. These kinds of Dmen develop faster cuz they've already figured that out not wasting time being fancy.

Reading Emily Kaplan, KD has had no specific trade discussions with anyone, and even if the players are UFA, KD is not going to give them away for what he believes is under market.

She also stated that the trade market is at a standstill right now, nothing is getting done.

Can't wait for the "KD got fleeced on the Kane and Toews trades" comments, or even better my personal favorite, "he should have gotten something for them".

Why wait? Put it out there, and just fill in the rest as things unfold. :D

Her quote about Tinordi was interesting: "ONE OF THE BLACKHAWKS players I believe has been generating value is defenseman Jarred Tinordi, who was an important waiver claim by Chicago in October. If he's healthy at the deadline, he would be a solid sixth or seventh defenseman pick up for a contender. "

Kane was not only the worst first round pick the Hawks have made, he’s the worst in league history. Imagine drafting a guy who can only play hockey and won’t “mix it up”.

Well, I think we all know what that makes wee little Paddy Kane...a goll damn Lavender Sniffer!

I would agree with that assessment. At the time i thought well he's perfect for the tank. To his credit he has played well and created possibly value we can gain in a 3rd or 4th at the deadline. Turning something we got for nothing into a asset from a waiver wire pick up is good management.

Looks like new kid on the block fresh faced GM Davidson has planted a flag in the ground. He's shown he ain't scared to pull the trigger on big stuff, Dach, Hagel and Dcat, but is more than willing to walk away if he doesn't see fair value.

Hopefully other GM's see him in that context and some trade partners develop.

Obviously if Kane gives the Hawks a list of at least 2 teams he'd go to they'll get a better return. I still think Jersey is a great spot for Kane both as a team with a real shot, geographically and long term. Kane centered by Hughes for the next 5 yrs has to interest him.

A return starts with an unprotected 1st rounder and has to be in the 2023 draft, which is really coveted. IMO a lot of buyers will want to give up a 2024 1st rounder not one from the 2023 draft. ...... After that the Hawks should pry away the best prospect or young NHLer they can. Chytil would do it for me. A 23 yr old middle 6 centerman who is an RFA next yr.

Kane for: 2023 1st, 2025 1st (protected) and a player
Toews for: 2023 2nd, 2025 2nd, and a player
Domi for: 2023 3rd and a player
Athanasiou for: 2025 3rd
Khaira for: 2023 6th

Draft Picks:
2023: 3 1st, 3 2nd, 3 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th 7th
2024: 2 1st, 2 2nd, 2 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th 7th
2025: 2 1st, 2 2nd, 2 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th 7th

That would be enough draft picks for now. Time to start adding players.

I don’t think the Hawks will get that much for Toews and Kane.

Cmon Wiz, I know this is beyond a difficult decision, as you notice I don't offer an opinion like I'm asking of you, but the billion dollar question is if the Hawks have the 3rd pick what do they do assuming Bedard and Fantilli are gone?
- Mr Ricochet

At this point it is very close between these two imo. What both are doing at their leagues they are playing is pretty special. If it game between these two at this point I would choose Carlsson because he could become center and has better size. But boy that Michkov kid is talented. Some say that he is the closest one to Bedard..
- MjulQvist

My board currently says Carlsson over Michkov.
But there is huge emphasis in the new scouting staff that emphasizes skating.
If I had a pulse on Michov and how he feels about the English Language, moving away and not resigning with SKA_St. Petersburg, then I might say take him as he is worth the wait.
I am gonna have to see a lot more Carlsson before I am convinced they go overseas at all.
As much as we all love Eudard Salé, I think the strong look see by hawks staff at Will Smith and Zach Benson and Callum Ritchie. (Smith is versatile but probably a centre formost as is Ritchie).

What if the Hawks pick 5th overall?
Zach Benson is five on my board, but after Nazar who is smaller, they probably are looking at size in the pick.
A dominant skater with puck carrying suave, no matter the position.

Not sure if you mean me? But if so, the red font on this board denotes sarcasm.

If you mean the post I'm responding to...the BOD (this place) has it's requisite share of meatbally, knuckle dragging fans too.
