This! Total bum, who contributed nothing to three Cup runs. I know when the Hawks were scouting him, Uncle Dale almost steered clear because of Kane's unwillingness to muck it up when the post-whistle shenanigans started. - HawkintheD
I can't believe he made it past the cab incident. |

Quick video on Sam Rinzel who just finished helping his US Team to win the World Junior A Challenge. Comments from his coach, Matt Smaby and Mike Doneghy from the Hawks.

You're drafting for the Hawks and have the #2 pick. Do you eliminate any risk and take the beastly centerman Fantilli or roll the dice and take winger Michkov?
Hawks have the #3 pick. Do you take centerman Carlsson or winger Michkov?....... These two possibilities have a real chance of happening. - Mr Ricochet
My views of Carlsson were as a right winger.
I guess I do not hold the general mock prognosticators view that the 2nd tier is just three players...so they will take the guy who pays the fastest, best stick as their "in place" and have high water marks in the rest of their areas.

I have never seen a three way trade with all minor pieces as the one that happened today among Detroit, Anaheim, and Florida. How does a trade like this even get put together? - 333inthe3rd
very carefully?
they got a CAP expert on each team's payroll...I am more curious about this trade during the trade freeze. |

Cmon Wiz, I know this is beyond a difficult decision, as you notice I don't offer an opinion like I'm asking of you, but the billion dollar question is if the Hawks have the 3rd pick what do they do assuming Bedard and Fantillini are gone????
Is Carlsson, or anyone else, close enough to Michkov to warrant using the 3rd pick on if the risk of taking the Cossack is too great? ... Or is Michkov just so rare that even a team like the Hawks, who are so short on prospects, has to assume the risk and take the swing on him?
Also, Powers did a good job breaking down a few of Rinzel's shifts at the WJAC, where the US won Gold, and talking to his USHL coach in his latest article at The Athletic. ........
I've seen maybe 5 full games of Rinzels this yr. No questioning his skating and size/reach as being elite. Keeping in mind he's only 18 when I watch him I see Kirby Dach like play if he were a Dman and I see Klingenberg. Like Dach he can skate thru 5 guys but skates himself into a cul-du-sac and out of options at times. Like Klingenberg his compete and motor as well as his in zone play below average with plenty of offense.
This is just a snapshot of where I see Rinzel's development. Incredible skating/reach/size, tons of offensive upside, coveted right shooting Dman, questionable motor/compete and defensive zone play.
Hawks rightly see him 4-5 yrs away. Maybe this yr in the USHL, 2-3 yrs at U of MN and a yr or two in the AHL. |

Kane was not only the worst first round pick the Hawks have made, he’s the worst in league history. Imagine drafting a guy who can only play hockey and won’t “mix it up”. |

Patrica Kane -22 leading NHL
Next time he sticks up for mates after a whistle in a scrum will be his first
Guy is trash & certainly no leader
Get him out ASAP - Goalie-33
Since some on the BOD want to burn Kane in effigy, let’s talk trades.
Wiz talked about some options, Trib had the story linked below re:trade with the Rags. Starts with a 2023 first, what young players do you think would need to be included and what other teams may also have the resources, cap-space (including trading salary back) and interest and what would we get back.
In an earlier blog I mentioned New Jersey (although as much as Kane would add the needed scoring they need size and think they will focus on Meier from the Sharks), I think the Islanders are also a real potential landing spot. For the Devils, I could see their 2023 1st, 2024 2nd and someone like Gritsyuk for Kane 1/2 salary retained( would love nemec but that only happens if there is a bidding war and we would need to throw in one of our lesser D prospects and the 2024 pick is 3rd round), for NYI same 2023 1st and 2024 2nd and as their pipeline is worse than ours might need someone like Raty (who has lost some shine after a down year last year).
Thoughts on what we could get for that bum Kane?

At this point it is very close between these two imo. What both are doing at their leagues they are playing is pretty special. If it game between these two at this point I would choose Carlsson because he could become center and has better size. But boy that Michkov kid is talented. Some say that he is the closest one to Bedard.. |

The top 3 in the 2023 draft are probably rare franchise players, maybe even 4 with Carlsson. Fantilli played for the USHL Steel for 2 yrs and as a Steel fan I saw pretty much every one of those games, a lot of them live.
Nothing Fantilli doesn't have and he's a centerman. As close to a can't miss as there is as a 3 zone, crazy high compete, tons of offense with very good size. That said if Michkov weren't a Russian my guess is 60-40 he goes 2nd at this stage.
That said Carlsson is playing at an unprecedented level for a draft yr plus 1 player in the SHL as is Fantilli in the NCAA as a true freshman and IMO both will be centerman in the NHL while the Russian will be a wing.
A lot of sleepless nights for NHL management types sorting thru the upcoming draft. |

Interesting question is that if Hawks slip to draft at fifth place who would you take? For whatever reason I like Brayden Yager even he hasn´t put eye popping numbers in WHL but he is my favourite behind the big 4. After that maybe between Will Smith, Andrew Cristall and Eduard Sale. |

Obviously if Kane gives the Hawks a list of at least 2 teams he'd go to they'll get a better return. I still think Jersey is a great spot for Kane both as a team with a real shot, geographically and long term. Kane centered by Hughes for the next 5 yrs has to interest him.
A return starts with an unprotected 1st rounder and has to be in the 2023 draft, which is really coveted. IMO a lot of buyers will want to give up a 2024 1st rounder not one from the 2023 draft. ...... After that the Hawks should pry away the best prospect or young NHLer they can. Chytil would do it for me. A 23 yr old middle 6 centerman who is an RFA next yr.

If this is the lineup vs NSH it's must see hockey with both 21 yr old Phillips and 23 yr old Mitchell in the lineup.
