Two drawings: top pick then second pick.
Even if first overall, with 18.5% odds, that’s a 81.5% chance of not winning and dropping to two and then maybe three. I believe this may be how it works. So chances are you drop.
I’m looking at our final standings in the tankathon to be what is our guaranteed floor (e.g worst record = 3rd pick). Anything better is a bonus IMO |

I thought of that too. Also thought the league would need Chicago to be good, so that the cap would go up with Hawks merchandising sales. Will be interesting if KD gets underwhelming offers for either that he does what he did with Kubalik and Strome, keep them and let them walk (or try to keep them for 3 more years). I don't think KD is just going to give them away. I also don't think the offers for either are going to be that good, especially if either are strictly rentals. - LAHawk
I would say that If Kane and Toews waive to be traded, KD will find a way to get it done. It is obviously much more complex, but KD has already moved guys out who needed/wanted a change of scenery to places that they preferred to go (Barratt to PHI, and Beaudin to MTL). He also took a perceived "lesser" deal for ADB, so we'll see how it goes. |

Nothing anyone can do about it......You, me, Davidson, Richardson, Brisson....all down to the player. Full NMC and they can decide WHO they want to go, and WHEN...if it all.
One would think 2 highly skilled players, who haven't had a chance to win in awhile, might grow exhausted by constant losing and playing with turds......but who knows? Kane has family here....could be tough to leave.
If they do LEAVE...hammer the under every night because this team isn't scoring 2 goals a game.... - SteveRain
They aren't scoring 2 a game with them.
At this point, I'm really hoping that they both move on. Not because I don't want them on the team, or think they are good players, but because I want a new (player) leadership group to emerge. Kane and Toews should absolutely be commended for what they have done to include and help develop younger players, but as long as they are around, most likely, those younger players will defer to them. I want the new guys to put their stamp on the team. |

Problem is there is no new core currently at the pro level. Your leadership group would then be S. Jones. Murphy, and ??? (Reese Johnson?). None of them have been on a successful team in the pro ranks. You are now looking at 3-5 years that maybe a new core emerges. I don't currently see the Hawks being competitive until 2030 at the earliest.

Why not? If i were KD i would take the best offer i get and move on. Then the rest of the playoff teams can get pissed off if it really is a cheap price, but i believe with the skins on the wall the 2 of those players will bring at least 1 first round pick each, maybe not for 23? |

I see all these teams in a playoff position, which teams wouldn't want Toews or Kane, instant upgrade for all the teams. |

Say what you will about him as a player, but man, Tinordi has had some brutal luck lately. Good that Soderblom gets to go back to the AHL.

In more minor news, Jalen Luypen was activated from IR (rotator cuff injury in September) and sent to the WHL.

I was gonna whine about Phillips being recalled, but then I saw that his Nationality on CapFriendly shows Canada/Jamaica and now I'm like "Dat's cool"
Add to that how anyone from Rockford will outplay C. Jones and that I won't be wasting my time watching this steaming pile anyway.
Galvas is in the last year of his contract. Why don't they want to see how he does in the NHL this season? They should assess him as an NHL dman whether their plan is to resign him or not. Maybe with some NHL games he becomes a sweetener in a trade. |

Soderblom must be relieved. While I think he’s proven to be an NHL caliber netminder I think it’s best for him to play in Rockford this season.
Good for Isaak Phillips, he’s earned an opportunity now we’ll see what he can do. |

del Mastro selected as one of team Canada's captains. - LAHawk
I think del Mastro could turn out to be a solid NHLer. Maybe not a top-2 d-man, but he could be top 3-5. |

They will probably pair him up with C Jones, although I’d rather see him with Murphy. |

I agree with this 100% and all Murphy knows how to do at the NHL level is to lose.....Guy has made the playoffs 1 time, and that was thanks to the covid bubble. Not entirely on him as he was on Arizona and bad teams since arriving here...but what "experience" does he have to fall back on? Exactly why when he opens his mouth after a game, morning skate, or practice and starts talking about mental toughness, etc...I just cringe. Same with Seth Jones......not a lot of leadership qualitites there as well.
I think Uncle Dale brought in Martin Lappointe back in the day to help show how to be a pro each day...something davidson will need to do as his new group of kids hits the pro level. Need somebody they respect as a player and who as a player can back it up vs a guy(s) who just give lip service.
In the meantime this leadership will need to come from coaching IF 19/88 go |

I don't disagree but I think it comes down to 3 major factors...
1. Does 19/88 EVEN want to go there? They hold ALL the cards in setting their market
2. Does a team 19/88 willing to waive for have the cap space to make it work?
3. Does the team also have the right package Davidson wants back? Picks, prospects
Have to think those decisions/talks from 19/88, Brisson, Davidson will ramp up right after the holidays. Going to take some time for Davidson to work it on his end, and have to assume buying team will want to maximize the ROI and get 19/88 in their room as quickly as possible.
That to me is the story line for us on this board until the deadline. Those 2, Domi, 89, and god willing 5 and/or 6....pick 1, hell do both, and keep stock piling picks and prospects for this year and the future. |

If it hasn't become apparent that what deserves to happen doesn't apply to this year's team (insert C. Jones 24 games here), they have through next year to develop Phillips under his ELC. Time is running out for Galvas and Mitchell and there are kids heading to Rockford next year to create a logjam of defenders. You want Phillips sitting like Mitchell (10 total games played) has? I don't, I want to see him thrive in Rockford, not go from +17 to -17 in a handful of games. |

I've got two counters here Rain. First, Lapointe was signed two years before they drafted Toews, and traded in the middle of the 07-08 season.
Second, what leadership did he bring? He was on SC winning teams, but what does that actually bring? Three SC winning Blackhawks were sent to the Thrashers the offseason after they won and not much came out of it. Would you consider Buff, or Sopel, or Eager leaders that other guys would or should listen to?
I don't really see anyone (vets) on the Hawks from 07-09 that really would move the needle much if at all in terms of leadership. You have Lapointe, Havlat, Lang, Craig Adams, Perrault? Maybe Aucoin helping get Seabrook and Keith ready?
I think the good teams find good players and get them to play as a unit on the ice. We have very little knowledge regarding what these players do or say behind closed doors or in locker rooms, so how would any of us know who is or isn't a good leader?
Murphy has been highly regarded for his leadership qualities in the past. S. Jones was tabbed by Torts as a guy who would be captain once it was available in CBUS.
What is your definition and how do you know who a good leader would be?

If true, maybe they are expecting to trade ADB and want to make sure they can hit the salary cap floor in the coming years. |

Couldn't come at a better time. Soderblum looked like a beaten and frustrated man last night after that goal he allowed just a split second before C. Jones slid into him and knocked his mask off. Let's hope Mrazek and Stalock remain healthy so he doesn't have to be called back up.

We can only hope. Doubt if he waives his NMC to go to a Canadian team. |
