there is a chance that he's playing well and wouldn't mind representing his country to try to win a gold medal, both are very possible.

The kid is finally reaching his dream of playing in the NHL, making more money than ever, why would he want to go unpaid for 3 weeks and play at a lower level, I don't get it. It's not like he is not playing with the Habs, he is getting ice time, improving continuously, slowly moving up the depth chart. Now with the Caufield injury, he will end up with an even better opportunity for linemates and ice time.

and no, they are not calling anyone up, Drouin will play the next game.

Kinda forgot about Drouin..
In any case I hope Caulfield is OK, the guy can really rip it and as a smaller guy myself I like watching him play.

I don't think it is anything serious, Slaf said after the game Caufield is OK, nothing too serious. Small guys have to be careful, their heads are at the height of most player shoulders or elbows, they tend to be vulnerable.

Drouin is not the same player, B2B surgery on the same wrist, he can't shoot anymore, not strength. He is UFA this summer...might have to retire after that.

Too bad for drouin, I always felt there was something more there but he never reached his full potential IMO for whatever reason

because it's an opportunity for him to represent his country? I'm not saying he definitely wants to go but I wouldn't be shocked if he did, it's very common for European players to take pride in playing in these tournaments.

Unfortunately, I think it’s up to the organization more than it’s a personal choice for Slaf. If they see that it won’t be a challenge, or necessary for his development, then they’ll do what’s best for him and his development within the team.

Debuting on the international scene in 2021, Slafkovský competed as part of Slovakia national team on both the under-20 and senior rosters, appearing at the 2021 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and the 2021 IIHF World Championship.[20] He then joined the U18 team at the 2021 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, winning a silver medal.[21]

Slafkovský was one of two 17-year-olds included on Slovakia national team for the 2022 Winter Olympics tournament.

Not like he never had the chance to represent his country.

oh I agree, and he most likely won't go. but a lot of people seem to think it would be a bad idea, while it sure wouldn't be a detriment to his development, he would definitely be playing more of a leadership role in the tournament, which isn't a bad thing at all imho.
