Haven’t given him any compliments yet. But I do have to say the new coaching staff has unlocked something in him that I have not previously seen. Same goes for Josh Morrissey.

Paul Maurice really did a horrible job of getting the most out of this team. Makes me sad to think that Chevelallseasonoff wasted 3 years of what could have been something epic here in Winnipeg.

I agree but knowing how close Chipman and Maurice are i dont think that can all be laid at Chevy's feet. if his boss said no, his hands were tied even if he wanted to fire him much earlier

further to this,
Jet fans do not realize just how involved Chipman is. Chevy is GM but Chipman makes final decisions on all player movement and signings.

Chipper. Very intense guy, and definitely micro-manages. Failure not acceptable.

There are detriments of micro managing, 1) not empowering your employees to do their job (Chevy) and 2) and if you are micro managing, then perhaps you don’t need the employee that you are micro managing. Viscous business circle.

I get it that this is a small mkt and has to watch his pennies, but must be hard for Chevy to swallow that pill.

Kevin Stenlund is making his Winnipeg Jets debut tonight against Vegas, coming out of the lineup is
Jonsson-Fjällby, Stenlund will be centering the 4th line.

1) Connor-PLD-Eyssimont 2) Perfetti-55-Wheeler
3) Harkins-Lowry-Barron 3) Gus-Stenlund-Gagner

Haven't heard anything about the D pairs, pretty sure they're staying the same.

Vegas is very depleted by injuries including no Eichel and Pietrangelo, possibly no Theodore either, Jets really need to win this one.

I was at the game last night. And, despite losing I do have to say I was impressed with how hard our guys were skating.

I am hoping that coaching staff does find a way to limit the high danger shots that Hellebyuck faces. This team needs an infusion of a BIG name to show them that management believes in the current group.

I think the Jets are really going to miss Mäenalanen while he is recovering from what I assume is a separated shoulder which could easily be a two-three-month injury. He is a key guy on the PK and really makes a difference on the 3rd/ 4th line in the way he practically controls the boards with his strength. Jets had one of the best 3rd and 4th lines in the league and Mäenalanen was a big part of its success. Bigger loss than most people realize.

Find the Jets six Sami Mäenalanen's and you would have by far the best third and fourth lines in the league.

Not really of any significance except dreaming............

But could you imagine Big Buf in shape playing for a coach that wants the "D" to get involved and get up the ice?? You would think this coach would be up his playing alley??

Yikes! Feels good to be missed. I'm here, reading every comment. Heading to the game tonight with my 3 boys (2 are visiting from California). We are all pumped, excited and hoping for a win!

Rexy is having a tough time dealing with Lowry's good play and the fact that Pulijujarvi still sucks.

I have been reading still and watching the games. I was getting grumpy and not having fun with hockey so needed to step back. Maybe i will get back into it again someday.

Going to blow my own horn a little -- at the end of last season I think I was the only one advocating to not make trades but to wait for the new coach and leadership to get settled in then determine what changes need to be made. The picture now looks very different than it did a year ago.

I share the frustration of many other regulars on the board for Maurice having been extended after the St Louis series loss a few years ago, it was evident then that he had taken the team as far as he could. That plus a few other incidents, moves, non-moves over the years has shaken my confidence in Chevy's ability to be the man who builds a champion.

Merry Christmas all.

I too have been watching and reading - very closely. I too have kind of sat back and swallowed my thoughts. A lot of highs and a few lows this far.

I think the jury is still out on this year's Jets - some games look like SC contenders - some games look like last year's team. But haven't missed a minute of their action (or very few) and don't plan on it - win or lose.

Damn Preds are always tough - but GO JETS!!!

Will post tomorrow after game tonight with some idle thought I have.

Their goalie sure kept the Preds in the game!

Good to hear some of the former posters checking in, good to know ppl are Ok and taking a break. I recall it could get heated on the board sometimes as everyone has opinions.

On last nites game, I figured if the Jets could get to OT, there was a good chance they could win based on this years OT success…. And, I was right!! 😂

I like what Bones has done in getting players in and out of the roster. For example, using a player like Strenlund…. you have to dig into the info and ask, who the heck is that?

Looks like a shoulder injury for Schmidt….. I wonder who comes back in? Stanley is skating so he likely is next man up? Kind of kills that “trade a Dman” thought process.

The O-zone time for the Jets in last night's game was about as good as I've seen in the past two years. Jets were simply dominant. Saros hot goaltending kept it a tight game . Preds are a tough team physically to play against but seem to be on their heels a lot.

Really liked Strenlund's game. Nice to see we have good depth like that.

Say what you want about Chevy, he didn't saddle his team with Ryan Johansen and Matt Duchesne at 8 million each per year.

I'm sure we could name a dozen players who have saddled their team with onerous overpays, add others that are perma LTIR's like Price.

That fact has been one of Chevy's very positive attributes. He rarely if ever overpays. One could argue Wheeler is an overpay but quite frankly he has so far surprisingly earned his pay most of this season and is back in as a first-line player. I can name a lot of other guys getting 8 MM per that do not.

Some idle thoughts on a snowy, blustery day here in God's country (Manitoba):

1. Jets calling up Heinola to replace injured Schmidt. I keep saying "this is Ville's last chance" - but it happens over and over again. Play with desperation, Ville!

2. Great game by the whole team last night. Play with this same mentality and who knows how high they can go this year. The secret: "work ethic!" Playoffs! Division?

3. Dylan DeMelo looked like the re-incarnation of Bobby Orr last night. Ok, I exaggerate, but career game?

4. Mike Essimont is not a top-6 player. Don't get me wrong, a decent player, but not top-6. Can't wait till Nicki gets back!

5. Do not see the Jets making any major trading moves at this time. Evaluate - until mid-January. They are doing fine "as is"

6. IF Connor Hellebuyck ever gets hurt, we're in big trouble. Captain Obvious here

7. Don't understand why everyone seems to think why we have so much depth on the blue-line! The six from last night, Logan Stanley, maybe Ville - and then who?

8. Great off-season pick-ups in Saku Maenalanen and AJF - they bring/have brought new life to the squad - effort is contagious. But enough waiver wire pick-ups!

9. Team in great shape for playoff spot - but wish the Stanley Cup champion Avs weren't in our division. Yes, they can be had, but......

10. They say up to 20 scouts have been following the Jets, with the Sens and Rangers the most frequent ones. Can't see a fit - maybe looking ahead to the summer? Think the Sens would love to have Logan Stanley, just a gut feeling, but not sure I want to give him up

11 Great seasons thus far for Scheifele and PLD - and wait till Connor starts filling the net (besides his GWG last night)

12. In any future deal, I do not trade my future 1st rd pick, for the team's future and fan interest (unless it's McJesus coming back of course). I would be willing to deal our past 1st rd picks, if necessary, in the likes of Heinola, Vesalainen, Lucius, maybe Lambert, etc

There, my "Dirty Dozen" thoughts on this wintry day. Merry Xmas everyone!!!

Does anyone know anything about this Karson Kuhlman guy the Jets claimed on waivers ?

He's 5' 10" so maybe he is known for his speed/ finesse. I'm guessing it likely not for his brawn. Seems like a strange waiver claim.

#7) Gawanke and Chisholm, time to call up guys like this when injuries hit, whats the point in drafting and developing them if you're not gonna use them. Tired of seeing many of the non 1st round picked guys get little to no chance, Stanley gets endless chances while other guys don't even get a callup when they've played well with the Moose.

Yes Chisholm is a possibility I guess, but if the Jets had big plans for him, I believe he would be up by now. Not impressed at all but Gawanke in pre-season, but we didn't see much of him to really get a read, did we?

Wheeler out for a month - ouch! What do we now? Huge, no pun intended, hole to fill! Any hidden gems with the Moose? Lambert isn't close, is he?

So I see Kuhlman goes in for Wheeler, and Essyimont to bench - and -
Capobianco goes in for Schmidt (instead of Heinola) - due to rust - or are they dangling Ville as a carrot?

Heinola hasn't played for 2 weeks so I guess that makes sense for tonight's game - but Kuhlman in for Eyssimont caught me by surprise. What are the odds of Barron or Harkins up on that line with Perfetti and Scheifele before the game ends?

Perfetti has met/exceeded expectations thus far, but always afraid of injury with him - he seems to be a target of other players for whatever reason, and he's not a tough guy IMO

I think its time to trade Heinola. He should be able to get us an upgrade in whatever position management feels we are weak at.

Ideally I would like to see Heinola and Pionk dealt to the Sharks for EK65. If this were to ever happen, i would immediately go to the Jets store to get a reverse retro Karlsson jersey.
