Made me sleepy.

I have decided to change gears however and hop on to Concur to submit my expenses for the year. They love it when I wait till Dec and submit it all at once. This will take me all day.

I cannot genuinely think of a single reason why that guy stuck around as long as he did... or got as many "chances" as he got.

not one.

I dont get the hate on him. he just did what was asked of him. you need depth and a 6/7 to step in when needed.

he played maybe 20 games.

NYI have a great goalie that has looked quite ordinary recently. They don't have the offense to win in high scoring games. Not sure about demise but they will be in tough to make the playoffs if Sorokin keeps poopting the bed.

Isles had 84 points last season

They have also been the most healthy team this season, that won't last.

The Islanders are still better than a lot of people want to accept. Lou hasn't done them any favours and giving him executive of the year or GM of the year or whatever that was a couple of years ago was laughable - but the core of the team mostly haven't aged out, are difficult to play against, and they are - as you said - propped up by an above average goalie - who, despite his stellar play early this year, is still considered to be one of the best goalies in hockey - so this level may taper a little, but it's not apt to completely fall off.

Take into consideration that the new .500 is .555 (91 pts in 82 games) with the extra point. The Islanders have 32 points in 27 games; if they play ".500" hockey for the remainder of the year, they pace out at 93 points. Now, last year it required 100 points to make it into the playoffs in the East, and I doubt this year is any different (it's on pace for 101) - but if the Islanders win 2 or 3 more than an average rate which they have a decent shot at - they'll eke in. It would still require Washington to continue to falter and the Rangers to surprisingly not pick up the pace, but it's not implausible.

• A Western Conference executive thought Kane and Toews would take their time to decide where they’d end up. It’s not just about going anywhere.

“They’ll want to see who’s legit to win the Cup,” said the executive, who gave their opinion about another team’s players under the condition of anonymity. “It’s still early to see who’s in the mix. You can say Colorado now, but who knows if they have some injuries that affect that. The Rangers could miss the playoffs. I don’t think those guys want to just go make the playoffs.”

• One interesting aspect of Kane and Toews’ futures is their contract situations beyond this season. The Western Conference executive thought Kane could get somewhere in the ballpark of his current $10.5 million cap hit on a short-term deal. The executive thought Toews would have to take a large salary cut.

“I would think it’d be in the $2 million range with incentives,” the executive said. “It’s not going to be salary based. It’ll be bonuses and making the playoffs. I love the player. He’s a first-ballot Hall of Famer and a legend in Chicago, but it’s just about where he’s at.”

No way I give Kane anything close to 10.5M...He gets a Giroux contract for me.

Not compared to the rest of the league. NYI were healthy last year, so that is wrong.

It might take 96 points to make the playoffs. On a simpler level, I believe that Boston, Leafs, Lightning, Wings, Devils, Canes and Pens make the post season. That leaves NYI fighting with NYR, Washington and the Panthers for the last spot. I could be wrong, but I think they are in tough, not impossible, but tough. I don't see Rangers missing the playoffs.

They were ravaged at the beginning of the year for a while, couldn't come back from it. It was pretty well discussed. November they had 6 or more players off with covid. They also played the first 13 games on road.
Last 2 months they were 18-11-3. Not bad.
Not a fan of them, but every year people discount them. Hopefully it comes true soon.

I don't disagree in principal with anything you're saying - I would swap Detroit and Florida (despite the early season performances, I still think Florida is the better team and they'll figure crap out, even with Maurice behind the bench). Why Florida went out of their way to hire Maurice and jettison Burnette . . . it's an awful decision . . but still, they have the talent to overcome it, and Detroit is still an immature team - but I think you're right, they are in the mix either way.

Agreed, i think the rangers wake up soon but i could see the wings fall off in the 2nd half. Unless they make moves.

Every team goes through things. Could find excuses for any team.

They were a healthy team last season and did not do well.

They have been even healthier this season and will be in tough to make playoffs.

Yeah, I'm in this same boat. I don't like the Islanders (except for Barzal) and I don't want them to be good (unless I've drafted them in my hockey pool, who happens to be Barzal), but I think there are pronouncements of their demise every year and they typically rise above it. They're a classically constructed hockey team. Grit, grind, size, with a bit of scoring. Not good enough to win it all, but built for moderate success. Hell, if Sorokin goes on a crazy heater, anything can happen. Never underestimate a ridiculously hot goaltender.

Boys are playing good in there own end and the big 4 are chugging along. Murray has blown away our expectations, guy has been great. Just throwing it out that perhaps Rielly is a liability? I love Morgan as he seems to care and is our longest serving player, but he seems to blow coverages ALOT in our end. Maybe we need to trade him for another d that can d…?
