Besides the fact that Chychrun is a LHD, I doubt Leafs will pay a high price for the risk you've pointed out. Leafs need to start drafting and developing d-men.

If they think AM is going to bolt they have to go all in this year. then trade AM in the offseason like Tkachuk.

I think Chychrun is a leaf only if Dubas believes he's the final piece for this year. Whatever it costs will cost at least the first rounder, solid prospect and maybe some roster player but then you're assets are kind of spent so he better be everything you're going after.

The other day I looked back at the last 25 years of Leafs drafts, to see how they have been at drafting and developing D.

Short answer: franking appalling.

Other than Rielly, I think Carlo Coliacovo was probably the best one.

Rielly, Liljregren, Sandin, Holl say hi.

Hollowell and Karl both send a 3 finger wave.

Braden Schneider and Kaiden Guhle blow a fart in your general direction, as the Leafs wait for the greatly anticipated arrival of 24 year old rookie Amirov.

Agreed Robertson needs more a consistent chance, leave him in the top 6 for several games.
Im just hoping the leafs arent laying their hopes on Knies jumping in late in the season and being a real big difference maker in the playoffs. We're hoping he is but thats quite a bit of expectations

When does the Uni season end? Before or after the deadline? I don't remember.

Agree, both D-men and Goaltenders drafted by the Leafs are appalling. Liljegren looks to be ok, for me, the jury is out on Sandin. He might be slower than Schenn

And with how defensive the leafs are playing as a team, is he the right add?
From what Ive read and heard, I dont believe he's that great defensive, could be wrong.
A roster Dman would have to go the other way I would assume

- Fakepartofme

He's better defensively than he's given credit for.

Also, since Rielly isn't great on PP1, put Chychrun there. He's excellent at it.

Depends how deep his team goes.

If he makes the frozen 4 its another 2 weeks past the end of his season.

Chychrun is good in his own end, as a 22-23 year old he had some of the toughest comp in the league and put up decent numbers.

a quick glance at Jfresh charts and Rielly gets a 2% in D impact and Chychrun a 50% with tougher comp.

- Santo_44

I don't understand this taken out of context. So if I'm a team, I want Chychrun over Rielly because he only improves the D by 2% and Chyc improves it by 50%? Does it take into account Rielly already plays the toughest competition? Define "tougher comp"? Tougher than who?

Other than your trade deal I do agree and I think everyone here shares the sentiment. Rielly needs to vacate the top PP. Honestly he's not terrible and maybe he brings something else to the second one.

With a 4 forward, 1 d-man PP set up - I agree. I would think you need a d-man that has a rocket shot from the point.

Its just a tool to use, it projects a players WAR. It is far from perfect but you can get an idea of who is getting tougher competition and matchups. How they are handling it.

That was when Chychrun was Sandin's age btw.

Overblown in my opinion.

The guys been unlucky, doesn't help that he has played full seasons in those shortened seasons to make it look worse than it has been.

Pretty sure a goalie is allowed to dive to make saves during a penalty shot, Frenchie.
