Serious hit, Hab fans must have enjoyed that one. Frome the game stats, looks like a battle of poop goalies. |

Took Mrs. Winsix to see the 2012 short run play on Broadway. Starred Al Pacino as Shelly Levene, originally played by Jack Lemon in the movie. Cost me a couple of bucks - was worth it. It is interesting that the character Blake (Alec Baldwin) from the movie, never appeared in the play. - winsix

We need Schenn back so bad. Read a great article about him on The Athletic, really changed his game and would be a great 5/6/7 option for us. - gravyface

So let’s take a look at the last new toy first. But I still wonder where he fits when when everyone is back.

If we want to add him to the Benn, Timmins, etc, insurance list that’s cool but I don’t think he replaces any of the right side starters. I’m pretty sure Keefe keeps Holl in over Schenn. Their last games are pretty indicative of their play.

That's not "1 hit" - that was a gamechanger in the playoffs type of hit. |

Ignoring the stats for a moment and looking at some of the momentum changing events of the respective games. Marner gives a cute little tap to the puck/skates of Kucherov and gets two minutes to start the third, Kucherov bludgeons Holl's head into the boards and gets two minutes. Leafs dominated first two periods, but all for not, cute little penalties vs. ones that actually hurt (on the douchey side) Result Tampa wins in OT in a game which they were outplayed 5 on 5. Montreal winning handily against the Nucks, Schenn destroys Habs top rookie player with a check, then beats the crap out of the Habs tough young D-man. Result Vancouver wins in OT in a game in which they were down 4-0 after one period.
Schenn would be a good add, he's not going to give Kucherov a huggy pooh like Holl. He'll beat the snot out a player that touches the goalie. Better penalties IMO than a cute little tap to the skates.

He started as an engineer on the Abbey Road album, was also the engineer for Atom Heart Mother and Dark Side of the Moon. So not that surprising. He was really good live. I saw him twice, once backing up Yes at the Molson Amphitheatre and the next year on his own at the Guvernment which was much better. He's not touring much these days.

Didn’t Montreal score 3 times right after after Schenn “turned the game around”? I like Schenn. I still have his jersey even if it doesn’t fit. I like the idea of someone on the D being much more physical. But right now the Leafs are winning because they have the 3rd best goals against in the league with their 3 best D out. Getting into the lineup when guys get healthy is a pretty high bar and I don’t think Luke Schenn meets it. It’s going to have to be someone better |

I'm not a huge believer in Vancouver as a playoff team, per se, but Boudreau had them paced at 106 points last year in 57 games. When you consider that Travis Green had coached them for 25 games, and faced only 11 playoff teams, yet sported an 8-15-2 record - and Boudreau did face 31 playoff teams in those 57 games, you realize they were playing pretty well. I think I picked them as the final western seed in the playoffs in my prediction thread!
Right now Demko just sucks. Between last year and this year, the moves have been nominal in terms of impact like their trades bringing in Studnicka, Stillman, Dermott or Bear and moving out Hamonic, Richardinson or Motte or he FA moves of losing someone like Halak but signing Mikheyev and Kuzmenko - and the FA moves are a net positive, really.
Honestly, Vancouver feels a lot more like a team that should have been moving out guys who were 25 and up (excluding perhaps Demko and Horvat) and retooling / rebuilding the group, rather than re-upping Miller and bringing in more FAs - but that's not my call. If they think they have a team that can kick at the can, then I guess go for it. I mean I thought they had a group that could eke into the playoffs for a year or two, but really the supporting cast behind the main players is just not strong enough - and it's not apt to get significantly better if you keep slotting into a middle of the pack / just missing the playoffs window. *WE* know this well.
That all said, a game like last night's could actually be something that gets them going. They've blown so many leads, many coming from a 4 goal deficit can provide some momentum. |
