Don't.

Just don't.

- Scabeh

Still makes me laugh that bingolady and bixll both projected him to be a bust when everyone said he would be a superstar. Sometimes the hottest of takes are right.

*looks up Drouin on eliteprospects*

- AdamFrench

You have no idea what the frank you are talking about.

Jean-Guy Drouin is an awesome winger.

Nobody has ever said they can't be better. What happens is when the team loses people come out of the woodwork to go "I was right! See they are terrible and can't win anything like this!"

Instead of simply admitting that the team is good and had some errors that led to a loss. I mean, great teams still lose games. I mean Colorado is 13 and 8. Not even a top spot in their own division as of today. I guess they aren't built to win.

- Aaron_85

Not quite built like they were last year
Oh and that usually happens after a team is in the finals and wins.
So not a good comparison

They are the champs in a copy cat league. They are the poster boy of what to do. It's the example everyone in these blogs uses is the current champ to make comparison for the leafs. If we don't want to compare them we can compare tampa, the previous two time champs, who's 5 points behind the leafs in the standings.

Based on the leafs past several years your hashtag should be #notbuilttowininplayoffs
:p

Leafs are great during the reg season, we know this, who cares. Lets see what they do in the playoffs...which in the past several years is nothing.
Hoping this version is different, and i feel like this is the year they do get past the 1st round and even the 2nd.
Their team defensive play seems better, so heres hoping that carries through to the playoffs.
We'll see in a few months time.

Plenty of people do.

Not everyone has the perspective that the regular season means nothing, it means a lot like every other regular season.

Playoff results have a heavier impact on future decisions...but looking at solely this year...its important like always.

Considering their injuries, their record is fantastic....heck even without the injuries their record is really good. 36pts i believe puts them 4th overall in the league pts wise.
Not too shabby.

Verlander 43m per? Ya forget that.

I'll say something even more crazy. Recent years have only shown that the Leafs can definitely win in the playoffs, not they can't.

I agree. They’ve been unlucky and haven’t gotten decent officiating. That probably evens out this year.

Sorry I don't think I'm being clear in my message.

My point isn't that the results in the playoffs don't matter. It's that the leafs have a very good to great roster. If the players fail to execute that's a different story and doesn't necessarily mean they are as flawed as some of the people who come out of the woodwork after a loss make them out to be.

Could there be a little tinkering here and there? Absolutely. Does it make them terrible enough that they should be built all over again? No. It doesn't.

Jays don't even have a playoff win. If paying Verlander 43 million on a short term contract did that? Absolutely.

It could take money away from another area of need. 43m per is too much for someone his age IMO.
You could get a quality starter for 25m per and spend the other 18m to bolster the pen or get a lefty.

I follow the NHL a lot...but I didn't know their record was so bad.

Caps are a team on decline and the Rangers are just starting so..Hard to believe Rangers sell anything substantial.

We can agree to disagree. I think they can go into the luxury tax if needed for that stuff. We had quality starters and they didn't win us a playoff game this year. As much as I like Manoah, he didn't get it done...Could you imagine Verlander too?! Again, on a short contract I'd do it. Not long term.

Caps are on the decline, but they've also been missing almost half their roster.

They've been playing like a bottom feeder for quite a while now.

And coach Galant has definitely lost the room...

Poor excuse imo, Leafs have missed half their blue line and both starters for most of the season and they are fine. Leafs are better than the caps but still.

They were a bubble playoff team going into the year that had to ride on Kuemper to be anything more than that. The injuries are causing them to be below a bubble team but the season is getting close to lost.

You know they aim to be competitive for as long as Ovi is here...but this year I think you sell and grab some prospects for post Ovi and then use all that cap space to sign players for the Ovi window.(Tarasenko?)

Orlov, Hathaway, Jensen, Eller gets you some good value...Head into FA and spend.
