I don’t think you’re dumb at all and I try not to even call dumb people dumb. Even smart people can have dry spells when their posts just aren’t quite clicking. Surely you can call something “super dumb” even if the team doesn’t win a round, Shirley. A bad idea is a bad idea. That doesn’t seem the least bit silly. Eggs for dinner, now that’s silly. - Canada Cup
Contemplating trading Marner and/or Nylander over the years isn't necessarily "super dumb." I think you know this but it's fun snarking on those who have been critical of these players, who are earning mega dollars to perpetually fail when it counts most, because 18-game point streaks are delicious.
For the record, I have always defended Nylander's contract since he signed it. I thought it was a decent deal then that has matured into a fantastic value contract. Then again, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that he could be moved at some point. He's not irreplaceable though he is having a truly great season so far.
Marner I've been less enthused about. I think he's overpaid for what he brings even though I think he's a wonderful player and one of the best wingers in the league.
In a cap world, giant contracts like Marner's have a direct affect on the team's ability to add more quality throughout the lineup. If he was able to play outstanding hockey in the playoffs I think my criticism of him would be significantly less so.
To wit: I don't think it's "super dumb" to speculate trading him or any other player on the team. Saying that it's a "bad idea" is based on what, exactly? Regular season point production? Is that narrative a slam dunk argument that trading him would be "bad" or "super dumb"?
Ultimately, Marner isn't likely going anywhere anytime soon (maybe as UFA?). Obviously. In the meantime, I will enjoy his 18 game post-season streak that is so clearly on the horizon en route to his Conn Smythe*.

Pancakes are also great for dinner. What's important is even if the first few pancakes don't come out perfectly, if you started with high-end, elite ingredients, you don't just throw the batter out at the first sign of adversity. - Zezel
The "first" sign of adversity? That's cute. |

You might be confusing “snarking” on you with a teasing reaction to a very broad statement that “I don’t think we can call anything “super dumb” until the team wins a (frank)ing playoff round.” Applying that criteria would shut this place down pretty quickly.
Why would I have a problem with you having a different opinion on Marner or the others in the core? It’s just hockey. Personally, I don’t see the logic of getting rid of one of the best players in the league because the team underperformed in the playoffs and I don’t see a trade that makes the team better. But I never called it “super dumb”.
Anyway, this is a hockey board and it shouldn’t be surprising if you get some reaction to your super hot takes |

Both Marner’s and Matthew’s game worn jerseys to raise money for ALS are at $20k each. Tavares and Nylander are at $8k. |

Yeah but they haven't won a playoff round! What about their best month in 100 years, having the reigning MVP, and being top 5 in goals against could possibly give you any hope?

Gloomy day in Toronto. Cold, drizzly.
Wife and kids are away. I should be partying it up, but my cold has returned.
I may just spend the whole day in bed. |

Caps seem like they are headed for failure.
Hathaway might be a nice add.
ZAR-Kampf-Hathaway 4th line.
Simmonds type player that can score a bit and is good in his own zone.
