While I agree with you, TK/Farabee will be Hayes age by the time they are relevant. Therefore, you trade them now where you can get significant assets. This is why it is so hard for the Flyers to say "rebuild"; it takes some gum shun which they have none of.

If we completely tear it down like that I worry about 6 or 7 years from now when we need veterans to lead our next generation of youth.... who will we have?
And these guys aren't exactly people to build a team around... it's just a bad situation.
If we can move guys for 1st rd picks next draft, particularly in the top 20 range, then go for it.
At this point it doesn't matter anyway, does it?! We are looking at this type of season for the next 4 or 5 years minimum, aren't we?

The issue is not players like Farabee and Konecny. They're good players. Imagine a team that had an elite #1 center and then had Couturier as the #2 center? Imagine if the Flyers had an elite #1 defenseman like Hedman or Makar with Provorov as the #2? The issue with the Flyers is that they lack elite talent and have good players slotted too high. Although Couturier is a #1 center, he is not at the elite level. They've tried to get around drafting and developing by trying to trade and sign their way there. That will never work in today's NHL.

We're looking at 7-10 years in my opinion. They can get exponentially better along that journey but it's going to take time to get to the pinnacle. If they even do.

DJ Smith doesn’t need any help from G to get fired. He’s not a good coach. He doesn’t have a great team but he doesn’t help. I haven’t seen them this year but watched them last year. Their breakout was horrible and a coach can teach even a bad team to defend. When I watched them in their d zone, they had a defensemen playing high and the center in front of the net. They gave up too many odd man rushes. On the positive side, he gives young players ice time.

I understand and respect their place in music history but I never cared for them. Their music didn't grab me.
