I agree. He's not my favorite player type by any means and as a man on an Island on the Canucks D, his defensive flaws stand out. With that being said, he's one hell of a hockey player on a better balanced D core as he's demonstrated in the past. As this team stands right now, he can't be utilized to his strengths without it being countered by his size and defensive play.

If we look back, the fans have been on a sea saw with him.... when he has a good season they admit they were wrong about him... as soon as the team struggles and he gets hung out to dry, the knives come out. People need to just admit that the Hughes question is way more about the team's structure than it is about the player himself. The what have you done for me lately routine is very narrow minded.

I know he is a good play maker and valuable to the Canucks but I still don't like him.

As much as i can.
GAme are on at weird times here tbh.
Sometimes i can watch at work and don't always get to watch the whole game.
That and i'd rather do things in real life when given the choice.
But i usually watch the highlights and keep informed.
Caught a live game last month when in town.

I stand by my assessment.
He's not my dream 1D by any means, but he is head and shoulders the best Dman on this team (not saying a lot), on this brutal team...and he's not the problem.

- dbot

Well you are lucky it’s difficult to watch this team in your time zone. In my opinion, Quinn is a number 3 who is sadly our number 1. He has the contract and usage of a 1D. He gets crushed down low and can’t be relied on in high leverage situations. Offensively he is fun to watch and his creativity creates opportunities.

On the PP he highly overrated. He is the teams primary shooting option and he floats it into shin pads or the crest 99% of the time. Why does he take so many shots? Could be because he is selfish. Could be coaching design (unlikely).

Part of the problem is Elias sucks on the PP this year. He is far too static and hasn’t been a shooting threat. If hughes was our number 3 and paid $6MM for his transitional game I wouldn’t complain about him. But we (frank)ing suck

Because English is a fvkced up language? It is one of the top 5 hardest to learn.
- Retinalz

English is one of the easiest languages to learn according to anyone I have ever met that is fluent in multiple languages. Language has become a topic that I have been interested in in recent years especially the migration of dialect and it's root sources. The opinion that it's a easier language for people to learn is shared. I'm sure anyone could find someone who says otherwise online but they would be a clear minority.

I agree to an extent, he's relied on to do way too much here. Put him in a role where he isn't playing as many big minutes and gets more sheltered, and his production is similar, making it more efficient. I don't think he's built to play big time minutes night in and night out, especially in the playoffs. He should not be playing 25 minutes per night.

But this defense is so bad that I can't really blame any of the coaches for overplaying him. If you're going to have a lineup full of guys who can't defend at a high level then why not play the guy who'll at least help you score?

Like is a concept I'm not very invested in when it comes to hockey players. There's players I don't like, then there's players I don't dislike. This creates barriers when I try to have conversations with people because they can only comprehend like and hate concepts. If I defend a player, I get accused of loving him or being a fanboy. If I criticize a player, I'm being accused of hating that player. Meanwhile I'm wondering why their brains stopped maturing at 14 years old.

Honestly, we like to pick apart everything about our players and prop up every other teams. In reality, other teams defenders aren't as good as we ever give them credit for. Is he ever going to be Cale Makar, or Victor Hedman? no, but he has skills they wish they had. Hughes is one of the most offensively gifted Dmen in the league today, and he is well above average defending against the rush. He is not the best at defending the cycle if he needs to clear net front presence or battle against the boards. But he does a decent job picking off/disrupting passes. Other than a minority of Canucks fans, he is seen as a legit #1 defender around the league.

I don't criticize him hardly ever, but I don't like him. I would be okay with a good return on a trade for him. I get all the stats, but it is still a gut feeling I have.
