Well you know I’d turn this wagon around lol
- Nighthawk

Oh. Sorry.,
you were the 'other' GM in this scenario.
The master of trading down for more picks.

You traded Connor Bedard at 1stOA for a 7th, 14th and a 2024 1st rounder.

You can keep your boy idc. He’s a big part of the problem since he got here. Most likely gone just cannot happen soon enough.
- Nighthawk

I agree, he is a big part of the problem, but he also helps with being a big part of the solution.

This is going to take some time to fix, so just kick back and enjoy the ride. This team absolutely should not be going out and using picks, prospects or capspace to improve the defense.

The D is more than coaching, they've had 3 successive coaches try to implement team D and it's failed miserably. Mostly because the players they have barely know the meaning of the word forecheck and taking the body. It doesn't matter if Abby is good at developing players if the big team is incapable of playing D that isn't chasing pucks, stick checking and body positioning. It also doesn't help that your #1D is a poor man's Paul Coffey.
- DariusKnight

Starts with systems & line dynamics. Not saying there are all the right components 4 lines deep. It goes back to my theory of dynamic duos with the 3rd wheel pulling it all together. Example is Burrows with the Sedins. Starts with a smart tenacious winger on the forecheck supported by linemates & D pinching when it’s smart. Puck pursuit is key as it is on the backcheck & Dzone. As for the D well it’s a sad bunch that isn’t mobile enough nor reliable. The F’s get lost out there to further exacerbate the huge problem.

I am probably the only one that does not mind if it is next year's first. The team is getting old.

- VANTEL

I said the same thing yesterday.

If the pick in in the twenty something range I'd rather just make it this season and not drag it out...

If they resign Bo before the TDL, things could be looking up for the Islanders.

- boonerbuck

Very very slim chance it’ll be in the 20’s. It’d take a run like the Canucks did on the BB bump last year. 19th place up to 13th+ nope.

I said they need Miller more than Horvat.

Either would work 👍

i was just joking that only Nighthawk would do that type of deal.

I don't think anyone actually would tbh.

As much as I want them to keep trading until they are stripped down to 3 young quality players, I really don't believe they are going to do that. They aim to be competitive next season.

Most likely we see a OEL buyout and then a couple of UFA Dmen on the UFA market or through trading picks etc... not a fan of this but that's how the owner likes it and the bulk of info management has released has been exactly that.

They just keep trying to convince the fans that it's them that don't want a rebuild no matter how much they demand it.

You don’t read between the lines very well. Top 2 isn’t his 1st choice. He also didn’t hire BB & wasn’t told about the year 2 option. This years version set records for ineptness. That’s on BB after better players were added. BB is gone so idgaf it’s time to look ahead.
- Nighthawk

There was no lines to read between, because Rutherford followed that up by saying, he would have been my 1st choice.

Pretty debatable that the players are better, or even if the players are capable of consistently playing any system.

Grew up in sports with that instilled in me. Always told & taught practice like you play. It served me well & brought out the absolute best in me. Idc it never made me a pro in sports cuz I had fun win or lose knowing I gave it my best. It’s one thing to be beaten & whole other thing to lose. I never accepted the latter. The former ops earned it it wasn’t given.

That’s always best. It starts on & off the ice & practices. Game time you wear it on your sleeve. One thing everyone omits by mistake or on purpose is there is no quit on this team.
- Nighthawk

People don't bother bringing it up because this is a team with a track record of either quitting in pre-season, at the start of games, end of games, start of seasons end of seasons.
It is a terrible mix of quitters.

😂

Seriously though I trade down once there are many players in a tier I’d be picking in or singling out a specific player for need. My fave is OJ would’ve been McAvoy. This draft is so deep we will get a great prospect. Tiers are quite simple imo

Bedard

Fantilli
Michkov

Carlsson
Benson
Smith
Yager
Barlow
Dvorsky

Leonard
Cristall
Moore
Sale
Wood
Reinbacher

Something like or close.

D is so weak Myers here or not changes nada. We break even on trading him or ride it out. We don’t sweeten it up but retain is fine.

Ok, but now you are counting on it being 13-16... that is unlikely as well, they either soar or crash...

Put your thinking cap on for a minute. They probably make additions at the TDL otherwise this move would have never happened. If it's all about next season, they could have waited and made a massive offer to UFA Bo or someone else and kept their assets or made a decent offer for negotiation rights after the season. The package they offered is too big to be considered just to be able to exclusively negotiate... make sense? If it's not a big offer for exclusive rights, then what kind of package is it?

People are stuck in the fast lane on the thinking here... can't get out of the lane. It's like the Irish Setter in the movie Vacation. Running for the horizon....

Nope. I’d have a back pocket trade though for 6oa. After 3-4 picks I like about 7-8 prospects later on. Sweetener is a good prospect preferably D. Maybe a high 2nd as plan B.
