Hot take, I would go the rest of this year and next year without one. This team doesn't currently have anyone that fits the bills and is going to be here long term for sure.
- manvanfan

So would I tbh.
But Alvin seemed to suggest that they'd replace Bo sooner rather than later

No captain. It’s that simple. No one other than Schenn deserves it and he is gone.

Schenn👍

He's going nowhere
He's got experience
He's chill and could handle the media pressures
Would be the new whipping boy for all the hate

If he face washes the odd opponent, seems like most here would be satisfied.

As long as he ends every season at like -30 like he’s on pace to do now I’ll be happy

Hot take here, but given the current lineup, i'd probably make OEL the captain.
Pettersson and Hughes can wear an A.

- dbot

I got a better idea, throw OEL's clothes in the shower and make Shenn Captain.

Why not, he fights and is used to being the leader of a shit team.

I don't envy being a GM. There are few certainties in the NHL. Much easier to (frank) poop up than to get it right. Fans get the luxury of hindsight but Rutherford said in his press conference "I know more than you" Loved that.
- manvanfan

Hired to be fired. Not many longer term GM’s out there in the league. You need an owner who believes in you, rain or shine.

He wasn't talking about us though, right?
Right?!?

Mostly the media that turns over every stone trying to decipher things that are said and once they have, they turn over the same stone again and decipher it a different way. Like what we do in here.

That quote was in reference to the league’s perception of how they handled Bruce. JR said that he talked to execs, agents around the league and they didn’t think it was that bad.
- Nucker101

JR says a lot of things but overwhelmingly, the hockey community has said the opposite.

We can't forget that BB was JR's top 2 guy when he was winning and not his guy when BB was losing.

It was also directed at one of the stats nerds, who claim to be media. I think that one was actually Wagner, but it may have been ,Faber, Quadrelli, Drance or Dayal

I'd also bet that Rutherford has forgotten more than most will ever learn.

That would be amazing for like a 3 year tank. Sign me up.
- Nucker101

3 years is wishful thinking, add 5 years to that. Short of getting Bedard or Michkov this year and zetterberg next draft, it’s going to be a long haul, building a good system out of the empty cupboards and empty team we have currently.

It’s not about what they have now, which they don’t have hardly any young big defenders in their pool, it’s about five years down the road.
- LeftCoaster

Always gets back to the D. Next draft every team knows that so we’ll see how those teams pick or trade up.

Hit the tankathon draft sim x 5

6th OA x 2
Dropped 1 to 7th OA x 2

And then got 1st overall on the 5th and final roll (i would have kept going until it moved up).

As much as i want to believe we'll get a top 5 pick, I can't really imagine it.

Our eternal destiny is 7th OA imo

It's broken, I'm literally getting the same results every time. Mock draft is giving me a different result.

I’m basing current trades on what I see in front of me. I know you like to get stuck in the past, but things change, now isn’t back then. The team currently needs to build depth with trades and with drafting. It’s a good start. We’ll see where it goes. It’s not 2014 anymore, it’s 2023 and there’s a new set of dynamics the team needs to address.
- LeftCoaster

The captain stuff is overrated at this time. Starting with team D is one thing coaches can do. Starts with line dynamics & systems. Personnel is the GM’s job. Prospect depth is the GM’s job. Abby is important to develop players for what they need to do to make an impact. These last 33 games is where to start & why BB is a goner. It matters not on the optics he suffered he didn’t get close to any team identity or continuity.
