They were on the outside looking in. Playoff push.
- VANTEL

They're going to continue to be on the outside looking in.

They're two points back but everybody in front of them has multiple games in hand on them.

Idk if any D were made available that made sense. Hot commodity & all & teams going on PO pushes or cup runs.

Agree that a winger is getting shopped & Schenn if the right offer hoping a 2nd. Miller is here to stay. Demko is unlikely but never know.

- Nighthawk

Ruthy said they can turn the team around in 2 years. At that point Demko is going into the last year of his very affordable deal. Do you waste 2 years of prime Demko, only to have 1 year left before you think your team is there and have to pay him again? Or do you trade him while his value is high (if it is ATM), and figure the goalie position out from within the organization or through FA within 2 years?

As well, Demko is going to steal games. So is it worth having 2 years of great goaltending on a bad team only to have them have worse draft position?

1st off Demko has to be fully healthy & find his groove. Split his duty this year. There is nobody close or good enough within the system. Trading him is rebuild mode not a retool. Mgmt should listen to only serious offers. Go from there. Still imo it’s about cap space & unloading a winger & Myers asap. Just the chain of events needed before it gets to Demko. See the dust settle.

NYI sits 14th pick.
- Nighthawk

So we're hoping the islanders finish somewhere between 16th-19th ideally. Best case scenario, that would mean we get their 13-16th pick. I want that pick this year.

Surprisingly/unfortunately, there are not a ton of D in the top ten, but we could snag one with the mid-first. Allan, Gulyayev, Pellikka, Price, Simashev (great name, hope he's a hitter) - I haven't; had time to follow many prospects - any idea if any of these kids look promising??

The story that gets lost with hull is he fought with owners for a fair wage they made squat and in 72 he said frank you and signed for a million with the jets and Stan makita broke down in tears for 2 reasons he lost a good friend and players can get paid properly so Bo can thank hull for breaking the barrier and since 72 bobby was attacked with fake stories to make him look like bad does this sound familiar in the world today? The summit series in 72 he got snubbed along with Howe because of the WHA when it should have been Canada’s best against Russia’s but he did play the Russians in 74 and 76 and the russians said he was the best they ever faced, if Canada had him, Howe and Orr in 72 the series wouldn’t have been close.
- Bettmanhatesus

Ya true. One Russian Sportswriter even went as far to say that if Canada had a healthy Bobby Orr for that series the Russians probably wouldn't even have won a game.

Just as I said, this was going to happen sooner than later

The return was a little underwhelming for sure, solid though, but I would have to venture the offers themselves were a little underwhelming. For all the people saying "they should have gotten a conditional pick!" or "they should have gotten an unprotected 1st!", it's a bit hard to get those if no one is offering that. We don't know what the market was like. They probably could have got a little more if they let teams talk with his agents, but then also could have forced a trade to a team that wasn't presenting the best offer.

One thing on the pick: it is more than likely going to be better than the Carolina/Boston/whatever other top team pick this year (late 20s), and if somehow the Islanders don't make the playoffs and the pick ends up getting pushed to next year... that's a non-playoff team who gave up a 1st, and could potentially turn into a top top pick I'm sure that was part of the weight of the trade, Ruthy gambling on the Islanders being a bad team

- NewYorkNuck

First glance I would have hoped for more but after looking unless someone was going to absolutely break the bank for a UFA 2nd line center, I'd say the Canucks did great.

Potentially check off 3 needs for this team in one trade would be massive.

At this point moving that contract would be nice. Don't think Garland fits here under Tocchet.

Grooming Raty into a 3C works for me. If better then wonderful but not likely unless he really is very good as a 2-way C. I can wait to see.

Beau is ok if another winger or 2 is moved. His speed & work ethic will surprise some ppl. Also a trade chip if they go that route.

The 1st is the real piece of meat to get D & build long term.

Other moves coming to unravel even more.

Crazy to think that Garland had his career year under Tocchet but now on a different team doesn't fit, after 3 games. Which Garland has points in 2 out of the 3 games under Tocchet.

Well at least if he stays he'll be a great punching bag for the new Captain to protect.
