That’s not how the lottery works now

Aah it’s top 12 protected & they are 13th atm. So the best they can get is 3oa that is HOW it works lol

So your ABSOLUTELY positive it’s what the pick ends up as not place in the standings. OK 👍

The draft order isn't determined until the draft is done, so yes I am sure.

Thanks, that was neutral and informative

Just a reasonable outlook. It can go either way as in better or worse. Overall not lots of downside but it was for a UFA so the upside is a solid gamble.

Grooming Raty into a 3C works for me. If better then wonderful but not likely unless he really is very good as a 2-way C. I can wait to see.

Beau is ok if another winger or 2 is moved. His speed & work ethic will surprise some ppl. Also a trade chip if they go that route.

The 1st is the real piece of meat to get D & build long term.

Other moves coming to unravel even more.

If you recall other draft lotteries when the cards are being revealed Daly would announce that the team selecting has not moved so their pick would go to the team they traded with.

Once Pearson & Miky go on LTIR CF says about 8.5m in cap space.

So NYI 1st is top 12 protected. Is that before or after the lottery? What if the pick wins 3oa?

Average lottery odds show 1st & 2nd drop down while all other picks hold pretty true to staying out.

The best part of the trade today for me was I think Canucks will finally fall and draft higher. That without question was the highlight IMO.

I thought the return was underwhelming but as we have discussed for weeks it was expected. It is fair and underwhelming in the same sense.

Raty will probably spend a lot of time hopefully playing with Podz and Hogs. Truthfully, I don't know if Colition is the guy to develop them seeing he has been here only a short time and have not seen anyone come up from Abby yet that looked NHL ready. Closest I can think of is Lockwood and he was a maybe.

I am very happy we got another first round pick and hopefully they select some good D prospects this draft.

The second takeaway from today is that change is finally coming.

We acquired a second Mikheyev today and that is fine seeing I like Mik and will be happy that we are starting to upgrade on the DiGiuseppe type players.

Today was a good day, not a great day, but thankfully the start of change.

Getting Raty is cheap cost control & helps the cap once he can make the jump. That’s one bonus in the trade. He will take a year or 2 to be ready. Another bonus for retooling & not rushing it. He’s only 1 piece that might help longterm with much more to do. Baby steps & patience. It’s on the vets & core to improve & start getting this train on the tracks.

2 years of retooling & drafting & developing has already begun & this move is in line with that. More trades to fully engage on that path.

Mgmt has hitched their wagon to Miller Hughes & Petey. Not sure if anybody else. I’ve got Demko staying no matter what unless a crazy offer. It’s one thing to retool but having no starter is a rebuild.

Just as I said, this was going to happen sooner than later

The return was a little underwhelming for sure, solid though, but I would have to venture the offers themselves were a little underwhelming. For all the people saying "they should have gotten a conditional pick!" or "they should have gotten an unprotected 1st!", it's a bit hard to get those if no one is offering that. We don't know what the market was like. They probably could have got a little more if they let teams talk with his agents, but then also could have forced a trade to a team that wasn't presenting the best offer.

One thing on the pick: it is more than likely going to be better than the Carolina/Boston/whatever other top team pick this year (late 20s), and if somehow the Islanders don't make the playoffs and the pick ends up getting pushed to next year... that's a non-playoff team who gave up a 1st, and could potentially turn into a top top pick I'm sure that was part of the weight of the trade, Ruthy gambling on the Islanders being a bad team

It was a calculated risk trade. Of course I wanted more but a UFA is a risk & therefore we got fair value.

Another reason to not target any D in the Horvat trade: full tank this season now, address the D in the offseason when teams are able to move contracts a bit easier.

I'm still thinking Schenn and one of Garland/Boes will be dealt this TDL. I'm hoping Miller goes this offseason, but not holding my breath. Also if they get a good offer for Demko I hope they jump on it.

Idk if any D were made available that made sense. Hot commodity & all & teams going on PO pushes or cup runs.

Agree that a winger is getting shopped & Schenn if the right offer hoping a 2nd. Miller is here to stay. Demko is unlikely but never know.
