Good article from Harm about the general feeling most of us have about the Kuzzy signing:

Good contract, but just the wrong time and backs them further into a corner they needn't be in. More short-term thinking.

- NewYorkNuck

Below is how I feel about it. Until you see what the whole picture looks like, assuming there is one, you can’t really judge until you see the whole body of work that should be coming. As he said below, if those moves don’t come, then sure, it’s a head scratcher.

I am going to judge this Kuzmenko deal in concert with the other moves they make, because I have to assume they are coming. If they don't come then I will have some serious questions. At this point I want to believe this is just one domino in a series to fall.”

They don't know what they're doing. Another team of day by day thinkers.
Short sight with no plan but to react.
I wonder how this group would have handled the floods?

If they do in fact trade Horvat, Myers, Schenn, Boeser, and whoever else, then this makes sense. If not. Ok. It’s a wait and see, at least for me.

I mean, ya, sure, we won't know exactly what they're thinking/planning until it all comes to fruition... but based on the moves they've made so far (resigning JTM and Brock, signing Miky, not addressing the D, etc), we can start to plot a trajectory of where it's going. I think their plans have changed slightly with how bad the team has been, but they haven't really changed course much IMO – which is trying to compete now

I think they’re two different timelines; signing Miller & Boeser was because they thought they were going to build on the success of the back half of last season and be competitive. That didn’t work out, obviously. So we’re on a different path now. Sign Kuzmenko and trade away the people who they deem are issues.

You’re right, they’re trying to be competitive next season but it’ll be with different players.

I also don’t think this is to keep Elias Pettersson happy, that’s ridiculous. If they were just concerned about keeping him happy they wouldn’t have signed Miller as they clearly have issues with each other.

For me, it is about consecutive management groups paying assets/ not trading away an asset, in order to keep Pouty happy.
Under Benning, they traded a 1st and 3rd to a quite Miller, according to what Benning said, after trading for Miller, then signing Mikheyev, to try be the defensive conscience for Pouty, re-signing Boeser, because he was Pouty's winger, then not trading a valuable commodity, because he appears to fit better with Pouty than Boeser.
Total cost to try keep Pouty happy, over 25 million dollars of valuable capspace and traded/nontraditional assets.

I dunno about issues but they definitely don't talk about or to each other much.

I obviously have no idea what happens behind the scenes but both Miller and Pouty seem to be high maintenance, yet both have been made core pieces. Without a strong captain and coach keeping everyone in line, it probably will never work.

I dream of a day when this franchise is not surrounded in drama. 50+ years of it. Its hard staying a fan of this soap opera.

I don't understand the narrative that Pettersson is high maintenance. What has he done to show this?

Come on now. You don’t get the nickname Pouty without being high maintenance.

The only people who call him that are about 10 people in here, and I don't think we're dealing with the brightest of minds on HB.

It absolutely 100% is, but when you’ve been around it so long and you grow up with it it’s hard to turn it off. No matter how much we try we keep peaking around the corner to see what’s happening.

From a recent obituary in Campbell River.

“Russell would’ve liked to have had 6 of the Vancouver Canucks to be his pallbearers so they could have let him down one more time,” the obituary reads.

For me, it’s about attitude. Him and his agent have indicated they want to be a part of a winner and EP is not willing to make a long term commitment to the franchise that drafted him. Until they see progress, only short term bridge deals will be accepted.

I can understand that, but a true leader would have said I am going to make this team into a winner, much like Yzerman did in Detroit when they were the laughing stock of the NHL.

I’m getting a bit of the Lindros vibe, and there’s never been a bigger whiny bitch than Lindros.
