They need young defensemen and centers in any deal trading Horvat. Not sure what they'll trade him for, but that's what they need.
- LeftCoaster

I think that would be a tall order for young quality players.

I think they'll up their offer with one last desperate attempt but Bo will tell them to (frank) off and he'll get traded for some ELC contract dman/center who's not living up to expectations plus 1-2 prospect/picks
- Nucker101

Yeah Bo is done. He looks like he's biting his lip every interview. His scoring is the equivalent of an ex banging everything that walks cause they got done dirty.

Not if Pouty wants out. We'll see.
Building anything around this group is like building a sand castle.

- Marwood

If he does, so be it...he'll get a massive return as he's developing into one of the best young centers in the game today. I think he'll love Rick Tocchet and what he'll bring to the Canucks organization. But I'm like you and Rueby, I don't know jack shit about how he feels.

He's "dialed in" for Tocchet.

I've always maintained my views

Option #1: Re-Tool
(a dumb one, but one I can at least see some logic in)

- Re-sign Bo above all else, no winger in this entire organization should be a priority over him in this scenario
- you're winning (frank) all with EP- Miller- Tweener from Bo trade down the middle. - - The sooner this franchise accepts that JT is a top line power winger, the better off they'll be.
- Get Horvat deal done, even if you have to overpay because you're not going to be able to replace him anytime soon which is what you need in order for the re-tool to work.
- Then focus on Kuz, buyout OEL(they won't), and clear any other winger cap that you can this summer, plus Myers if he'll waive
- Pray that you can by some luck land a couple of top 4 dmen over these next 12-24 months by trade or UFA.

Option #2: Rebuild
(this is moot since it's not going to happen, but for fun)

- Trade Horvat, Schenn and Kuzmenko, listen to offers on pretty much any type of trade that positions this team better to compete 3-4 years from now.
- If the worry is that EP won't re-sign, then bridge Kuz and flip him later down the line, Kuz's agent himself said he wants a bridge deal, that's perfect for this scenario
- Sit on OEL and Boeser's deals, no need to take on long term cap penalties for them. I would move Boeser with retention only if I get a pick or prospect back thats good enough to make it worth it.
- As you move out players, more ice time opens up for others, more powerplay time, more pump and dump opportunities.
- Get creative, sign late summer UFA's to 1 or 2 year deals with the intention of flipping them, be a middle man in TDL rental deals where you retain money in a trade and get compensated for it with a pick or prospect
- After 3 years of this, you start looking for opportunities to cash in your chips if a Sam Bennett, Sam Reinhart, Devon Toews or John Marino type of deal pops up.

- Nucker101

Can’t disagree more. Bo is a massive part of the cultural problem with this team. If they trade Bo the team should regress which will cause them to hopefully rebuild instead of retool. Nothing will ever change if they keep the beta cap

Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Dylan Coghlan and a first round pick (or Scott Morrow) that's the deal...just a matter of time.
- LeftCoaster

KK requires assets to dump. Most likely KK, Morrow, 1st

That's why I prefer option #2

Good luck finding a center or relying on Miller to replace Bo at center

Plus if you move Miller to center, all of a sudden your wingers are no longer really a team strength either. Kuzmenko/Boeser/Garland/Mikheyev as your top guys isn't exactly upper tier in the NHL.

I'm looking forward to this re-tool being attempted with Horvat gone, I wonder how many teams get better after trading away a 30-40 goal center who's a faceoff beast

Like you, I would prefer they get rid of them all, over the next season and a half.
- Reubenkincade

A plane crash gets rid of them all, hopefully FA is on board as well not to mention all the media idiots.

If they fail it’s a good thing. More high picks and pouty will want out. Baby steps

Generally speaking you don't get returns that are going to impact your team immediately when trading a pending UFA, it's a long game move. There are deals out from teams wanting to compete right now, like when Montreal picked up Nick Suzuki. It'll be some failed kid who they think they can turn around like Kotkaniemi though...good luck to them.

Mgmt said option 1

For me it’s move Garland &/or Boeser for best offers. It’s about cap space & redesign roster. Sign Kuz & Bo. Buyout Myers if no takers @50% retained now or later. Buyout OEL in 2024 if not substantial improvement. More later after this gets accomplished.

This team already did the accidental tank thing fort a few years, none of those low finishes that got us Hughes/EP were planned and it didn't work out. Now you have a mediocre team with a bottom 5 prospect pool. And that's what you'll end up with again if they do it all over again unless they luck into a superstar.

We'll still be having this same discussion again in 3-4 years.

That’s the ask. Canes don’t lean towards rentals. So unlikely even though a 2C is a big hole & the scoring they lack in the PO’s.

Waddell should be fired for his revenge move signing Kotkaniemi, what a bonehead move. I don't think JK is a bad player, he just wasn't worth what they did there.
