Losing Boeser & Garland is 11.6m cap. That is a gain unto itself & on how it gets reallocated. What the returns are will be most likely picks or if cap dumps then fetches more. Depends on timing &/or who might offer up a deal to make it happen. Also Schenn for a 2nd helps.

Kuz Petey ???
Miky Miller ???
??? McDonough ???

Pretty good for the Tank 👍👍

Leaves it to Pod & Hog to win spots & other prospects when ready. McDonough will be signing & will get his audition. Don’t over play Demko once healthy.

You think a team is going to take on Boes and/or Garland without sending some level of money back? Not a chance. So, that takes off from your 11.6. Then you have to take a further 6 off just to sign Kuzzy, plus adding contracts for Pod and Hog to take over spots... your 11.6 gets eaten up really fast. Sure, they'll save Bo's 5.5 as well, but then they have no Cs coming up so the team is going to be worse. Why resign your second best trade chip?

This explains it to a tee.
Kuz fell into their laps and was free money. With the way he has played and his contract, that free money turned into a lotto win. It is the best thing that has happened for this team in a long time, and they should use every last asset he can get in a trade to help improve the critical positions.

If cashing in on Kuz I’ve still no faith in Garland & Boeser to be the answer if still here.

So trade Kuz sure & get a haul but that doesn’t change what the problems are. He wasn’t part of it.

You either have to suck bad and bottom out for top picks, or win. Keeping up this Canuck way is insane way of building, re-tooling, rebuilding from the wings, etc...

I said cap could come in. Few teams cannot cannot do dollar in without dollar out. Also Kuz’s raise kicks in next year & cap in could be expired by then. There are other ways to gain cap. Pearson LTIR or buyout. Myers salary retained in a trade.

No unfortunately the haul from Kuz wont fix this poopshow. But it is a bonus start that they didnt have before, so use it. Garland and Boeser, waive them, trade them for 9th rounders, idgaf. Just start a proper build already.

It is not about gaining cap space to compete at this point. It is to gain cap space to take on castoffs and gain picks, period. BLOW IT UP ALREADY!

I suggest keep Kuz & lose 2 other wingers. Keep the best eff the rest.

If traded fine so be it still need 1 more winger gone. Next season Pod & Hog should be better ready to push for a roster spot. There is still McDonough not to be over looked.

Keeping Kuz doesn't change the problem. The problem is the team sucks and has no good young players or cap space. So yes, trading Kuz actually addresses those final two things – and Kuz is on the team now and it sucks, so keeping him/trading him doesn't really change that aspect.

Sounds good 👍

Losing a 950k gem doesn’t gain cap but gets transferred to a pick. That’s more long term thinking. Not a problem with that as long as 1 more or 2 are moved. Going to fix the mess it goes deep.

So what do you think the problem with the team is? No cap space? Because if it's only cap space, that means they're likely to just bid on overpriced, overaged guys at FA. And if the point is to suck and weaponize cap space... what the (frank) is the point of signing Kuz

Problem is cap allocation. Poor results for money spent.

Weaponizing the cap is great but deferring it for 1 year isn’t bad. If that’s the best offer do it if long term it makes sense. 1st off is to make a trade for picks/prospects (Garland). That is hard for the TDL but maybe in the offseason is better. Boeser specifically. Trade Kuz for a 1st weaponizes only 950k diddly squat. Trade Kuz before the TDL will be maxed return but the 1st is later so want a sweetener.

So you wanna pay the 8 million dollars to Horvat for the same product? That's not how you build a winning team. Major changes are badly needed. Not only does the team need a culture shift, it needs to get away from the same core product that continually loses year after year after year. Is that the fault of one player, no, but you've gotta start disassembling somewhere.
- DraftandDestroy

Yes - I would have never signed Miller to $8m, which also set the bar too high for Horvat by the way. But now that it is there I would trade Miller, Kuzmenko, Boeser and any D you can get rid of except Hughes. Horvat isn't the problem. He has demonstrated his ability to improve every year. People said he couldn't be more than a 3C and he is a 1b/2A center. The guy is a beast in the F/O circle and can win board battles. If the management didn't have such a swedish (or woke?) outlook he would drop the mitts more too. He has had some decent fights..anyway, taking advice from a Flyers isn't a priority....

No 1 player gone solves the problem goes far far deeper.

Trading Kuz doesn’t address the cap problem. It does address not spending if no other big contracts not moved out. Still leaves possible cap gained trading Bo &/or others.

Yes the team sucks with or without Kuz nobody can argue you that. Trading or keeping him has everything to do with how the roster gets remade. It was stated a retool not a rebuild who or how they go about will play out soon enough. I’m cool as long as it really is ‘MAJOR SURGERY’.

Saw that Jake McCabe has a 7 team NTC

Then saw a tweet that says the Leafs are the only Canadian team not on that list

So 6 of the 7 teams he doesn't want to go to are Canadian

But as Drance/others points out, you have a whole bunch of money tied up into wingers (not a winning forward position, plus the Canucks have a lot of them) that aren't going to move the team forward since, ya know, they're already here and the team sucks.

Sure, you can get rid of other wingers for pennies (at best), but then you sign another one to a contract and what have you really done? Just moved money from one winger to the next without truly improving the team.

The Canucks have very few trade chips to reimagine the team, and unfortunately Kuz is one of them. He could net a great haul which would help the team in the long run. And that's all we've been complaining about, no? We want some long term vision. Signing Kuz isn't long term thinking. And that's coming from someone who likes him and would want him to stick around – the Canucks just aren't in a good enough position (both with their roster, prospects, and league standing) to afford themselves the opportunity to pass up trading him.

- NewYorkNuck

Canucks you know aren't interested in futures

I'd trade him and go back in free agency

Coaching staff starting to round itself out.

Tocchet, Gonchar, Mark Reechi. King might stay.
