Big game tonight.
6-4 Lightning, Eliasx2, Bo and Studnicka with the goals.
Stamkos with his 500th.

Luke Schenn leaves with Tampa.

Also, going to be a big tribute tonight for the legend, Gino Odjick.

In Stamko’s suitcase, he’ll do anything to get out of town.

I'm out on Roman Schmidt. After seeing him on TV the other night and watching some highlights. I'd rather have other pieces from TB like Jack Finley, Cage Concalves, Niko Huuhtanen, Jack Thompson.

Roman Schmidt isn't a very good defenseman.
Jack Thompson would be a nice addition, but I just don't think this management group will be seeking a player who is still developing in other leagues, unless there is another player added, who is an NHL calibre player.

You would think he wants out, but has said he wants to be in Vancouver.

LeBrun on Insider Trading says Canes and Canucks have talked about Bo Horvat but the price is too steep for them right now, Canucks would like a young centre back in return as part of a multi-asset package and the Canes are not trading away Martin Necas.

Center's are always in need, I can not see a team giving them a center.

Canucks want one, draft one before the 4th round. ffs

You were on board with Schmidt before with me

I'd rather lose the cap hit and just sign another cheap player. Get rid of Schenn and start playing Burroughs, maybe by the TDL he can get some value.

The problem with a trade with the Canes is the minor league prospects play in Chicago, which is an independent franchise, so the goal is winning, not developing.
So, a young centre like Ryan Suzuki doesn't get a lot of the development time needed.

Canes don't have that center I would want back anyways. Really most of the teams that are interested in Horvat, have no young centers, that's why they are trading for one.

Most of the ones I would want back in a trade come from this draft and most likely in the top 20.

Tomasino isn't playing center in the AHL.

I'd much rather the Canucks just sign Dylan Strome to a short term deal, hope that Tyson Jost goes unqualified and draft some centers in this draft.

In Horvat and Luke Schenn, the Canucks will have valuable trade chips to test this theory out against. There’s your shot to land more impactful pieces.

The problem is that contending teams want to keep young talent that can step into an NHL lineup very soon because they need to fit ELCs on the roster — why would they give up a player that’s ready to slot in as a top-four defenceman or top-six forward next season for a rental? These are the premium pieces that help solve a contender’s cap crunch. The Canucks should have learned this lesson when they shopped J.T. Miller, who was coming off a 99-point campaign, and weren’t pleased with the offers which lacked impact young players who could help right away.

Contending teams would rather surrender draft picks or prospects who are 18 or 19 that don’t factor into their immediate plans. If you’re looking for anything else, you’ll probably end up sacrificing potential and upside.

What could solve a lot of problems for the Canucks own cap situation would be also to have good young talented players on ELC's.

Another management group caught off guard and discovering that this running a team thing is pretty hard, You know, the cap and bloated contracts and things. Oh well, it's all the coach's fault.

Boeser's a hot commodity I see

Dhaliwal: Hearing it's pretty hard to move Boeser. They're going to have to get creative. That may involve retaining money in some of these deals.

So in other words drafting? How novel a concept.

How about targeting this guy?

Jared McCann is currently 2nd in the NHL in primary points/60 at 5v5. He has second-line xG impacts and is tied for 2nd in the league in xWAR.
Over his final two seasons in PIT, he had the same 5v5 pts/60 as Timo Meier, had first-line xG impacts, and was 81st percentile in xWAR,

How about those comments from JP Barry last night, alluding to Pettersson potentially asking for a trade this summer if there’s no clear plan from management? Yikes!!!

Talk about bad to ugly.

Can you blame him? JR admits he f*cked up his assessment a year ago.

Does he want to hang around for "major surgery"? The kid wants to win.

Drafting a center or a defensemen. Two positions that will take the longest and require more skill. If you are looking 4-5 years down the road, well if Petey leaves and if when Horvat goes. Miller clearly isn't going to be a center.

They will have to play Lekkerimaki or Klimovich at center

Nils Aman and Arvid Costmar might be the teams top 2 centers in 3 years time.

Scary future. Could change with one good ‘23 draft.
