But didn't you also like Garland, Schmidt and several other duds.
- Reubenkincade

Some egg on my face…

I thought OEL would me more stable & a fresh start bring more outta him. Didn’t like his cap hit but he hasn’t a partner either.

On Garland I liked him but he’s now just an asset to get something for need & run with the wingers we have.

Rutherford: We're stuck with contracts we can't move.

- VanHockeyGuy

That is a league wide problem. It also says it costs big to dump contracts & unlikely to go there.

Hot take...

I wonder if Lafrenière might be one of those "reclamation" projects?

if he can get this turned around in 3 years. Rutherford says that’s more than fair and that he thinks it could be done sooner than that. “We have a lot of good players here. But we don’t have a team”

Respect and professionalism. There's a reason why everyone loves and respects a guy like Pat Quinn, he was all class.
- Nucker101

Pat Quinn is a legend but he was fired by the Canucks in 1997 for good reasons. Those were very dark times for the Canucks.

He was accused of (frank)ing up the relationship with Bure, was responsible for Gretzky not joining the Canucks, and of course the Messier fiasco. After the 94 season, he was a complete disaster as Canuck GM and he drove this franchise into the ground. But time has a way of forgetting such discretions.

Ya, it is pretty hard to switch allegiances, unless you grew up with another team, like Lefty, Flyers and myself, Bruins.

With Bo on his way out and Pouty wanting out, they may as well try Hughes at centre, until he gets traded.
- Reubenkincade

No link saying Petey wants out.

Complete BS. 1) it was Burke who messed up the relationship with Bure. Offering him a contract secretly in CDN not USD.
2)Quinn didn't ruin the Gretzky signing, it has been admitted that he had a handshake deal in place and Gretzky wanted to wait until the next morning to sign the deal. Our then owner forced Quinn to call back and get it done right away, and Gretzky said "fvck you". He was then forced to get the next biggest name, which was Messier. get facts straight before smearing someones name.

But then he follows it up with we want a retool not a rebuild. Sort of like a janitor saying they want to earn a million a year in salary.

We have 2/6 defenseman that could possibly help this team win in the right situation ... and one plays pond hockey and the other's NHL career is approaching it's end.

Factor in you probably need 8 nhlers to account for injuries and playing on west coast, even if this team decided to rebuild right now it would be 5-6 years till we could have something that represents a big league D core. Without that rebuild commitment, I can see the 10 years being bantied about here being realistic.

- Sayros

A decade not replacing D & here we are. It’ll take some magical moves to make it only 5-6yrs.

I don't know. I haven't watched half the games. I wake up each day curious to see what is happening, but don't really care. Can there be a middle ground of somewhere in the middle, just like our team?
