His trades were terrible as Bennings aside from the one he made with the cap strapped Sharks. Forget the Dmans name. I know you guys liked him but he was soft as sh1t.

All his other trades stunks. You guys really forget the chants at the arena "Fire Gillis"?

- VANTEL

if only they could chant fire FA… cause selling isn’t happening with this cash cow team.

In the meantime there has to be someone in charge, who can do a rebuild plan, while telling the owner it’s all about winning a Cup.

That won't be Tocchet's choice, he'll have his assistants picked for him like the others.

Hi folks!!

No hate today feeling very blessed. up $240 from Gulfstream yesterday just making some bets today.

Have a feeling the Nucks might beat the Canes. Good payout too.

Plus I was just at the Pharmacy grabbing stuff for the GF and I managed to get up to date on all my shots. Feel so safe!

They weren’t terrible, that’s another false statement. He had some good trades and free agent signings. His trades for Ehrhoff, Lapierre and Higgins were very good and added the depth required to compete for a Cup. Not to mention adding Hamhuis and Torres via free agency. His trade with NJ to acquire the 9th overall pick to draft Horvat was very good. The majority of his trades, like most teams were meaningless frivolous trades. But yes, the Ballard trade turned out to be bad.

The fact is they were a really good team for a number of years during his tenure even if you ignore the President’s Trophy and their division, they were just as successful outside their division as they were in it.

As I just said in the post above, when teams are trying to win the Cup and you’re dealing with an owner who won’t let you do your job it’s a difficult situation. For Gillis, Linden and Benning. But there’s no way Gillis set the franchise back ten years lol. Benning had cap space and tradable assets when he came onboard, he had a tremendous first draft, I was excited, and then he pissed all that excitement away within a couple years making stupid moves.

- LeftCoaster

You can have your thoughts on the subject, that is fine, but he really did set the team back 10 years, and the proof is it is 10 years later, and this team still sucks.

Linden also had a huge part of the hockey ops and gets away like the Teflon Kid he is. Fan favorites don't get criticized in this market. I believe he had to oversee all Bennings trades and signings, and rubber stamp them before passing them on to the owner.

All three GMs did a crappy job and the two Presidents as well, but until the owner gets out of the picture it is crazy to think things will be different.

That’s why I said they need to fix the mix of players and the defence. He can make them better but not to the point they’re going to play meaningful games in the spring.
- LeftCoaster

I would be happy if they played meaningful games in October.

I got news for you. Gillis set it back 10, then Benning set it back another 10 and the new guy is setting it back another 10. Sit back and enjoy another 20 years of misery seeing we are almost at 10 since the Scroatie has left.
- VANTEL

Gillis hung a couple of banners in the process. The real damage was done by Benning. I doubt there's a GM out there that could undo the damage he did. But you're right, it will take a long time to dig out of Benning's hole. Probably longer than what you are willing to give this regime.

Linden got screwed over by Benning & Weisbrod, FA was dumb enough to listen. Rutherford told him the same thing. And here we are.

Didn't Linden leave because he wanted to rebuild? Benning and him disagreed, FA chose Benning.

He didn’t, sorry that’s just BS. But like you said, it’s a free country, well not so much under Trudeau but we’ll leave that alone lol, you think whatever you want. The Canucks were ripe for a rebuild when Benning took over and he did a great job acquiring picks.

Is that the same Hamhuis that everyone wanted traded but couldn't because of a full NTC?

Schnieder trade was a fiasco. The owner even flew to Roberto's home in Fla because Gillis couldn't trade the goalie that should have gone. He went to Plan B.

The Torres signing, I liked. Lapierre turned out to be a bust. Higgins trade is on par with the Pearson trade.

How aboout the Ballard trade? How about Carney for a second? This is exactlty what Benning did.

Not me. I was for the re-build. Since then my respect for this organization deteriorated quickly.

I must say though their secrecy, indecisiveness and stupidity gives me great pleasure.

Yup, that's why he's washed his hands from any Canuck functions. I bet he'd like his jersey taken down.

Canuck’s seem to be going in circles on what plan will work.

Just for laughs you’d think they try to acquire picks and prospects.

Thing is they think they are close. As in, fix the D and coaching for this team to compete.
