After last year's screw ups, I don't have any faith in this management group. The Chipmunk seems like a glorified yes man. He really so far makes Benning look smart. I know how everyone hated JB, but this guy is

Personally I don’t think enough time has passed to properly judge this management group, yes they’ve made a couple strange moves and they’ve also been inactive with moves. I’ll reserve judgement on them once the NHL entry draft comes. If they haven’t made significant changes and added a lot more draft picks, then yes, just another continuation of the dysfunctional Benning years.

Benning set this franchise back 10 years. This regime has a ways to go to match that level of stupidity.

I think it's finished. They just haven't realized it yet.

At the end of the day, they're all yes men. FA tells him I want the playoffs every year, it's on them to do the rest.

Yup

Tochett may be a hard ass, but will he be a bigger hard ass than Torts?

A fourth coaching change is like having a bad transmission and you put on new tires to fix it.

He can certainly make things better if he can get them to play better defensively but the mix of players and the defence is still a glaring issue.

I got news for you. Gillis set it back 10, then Benning set it back another 10 and the new guy is setting it back another 10. Sit back and enjoy another 20 years of misery seeing we are almost at 10 since the Scroatie has left.

How did Torts do? This team is not built for Defence. Nothing and I mean nothing defensive about this current team.

That’s completely false and untrue, although a good story for Benning supporters to make themselves feel better.

Gillis was terminated two years after winning the Presidents Trophy because he wanted to rebuild and Francesco Aquilini said no way. Then Benning and Linden come in and after a couple years Linden said they need to rebuild, again, Francesco Aquilini says no and fires Linden.

Benning’s hands were tied by the owner but he kept telling him he could be competitive, which turned out to be completely false, and here we are eight years after he was hired still at the bottom of the league. Francesco Aquilini is at the heart of all the current issues that plague the organization.

That’s why I said they need to fix the mix of players and the defence. He can make them better but not to the point they’re going to play meaningful games in the spring.

With Gillis, I'll give him leeway since the team at least won a poop load of games under his watch, with credit being shared with Burke/Nonis. Benning and Moleman/Chipmunks have no excuses.

This is such bull crap about the President's trophy. I could have won with a junior team playing in this division. Cmon man the Pacific division stunk back then; they were terrible.

He drained the propspect pool, he let the team age beyond repair, and he handed out stupid contracts with NMC and full NTC 9 to be exact. Good luck to any GM to follow.

I said for a few years of Bennings final year I was okay with replacing him as long as it was not a step back and here we are today. I was as shocked as anyone to see JB get that last 2-year contract and said he should have been gone.

I never thought JB was great but was seen as a huge JB supporter when in fact I was just calling the shots as I had envisioned things would unfold and here we are.

Gillis drafted poorly, all be it from less than great draft positions, still, that’s more a function of the scouting department (under his direction) when you can’t mine a few players past the first round. He hardly set the franchise back ten years, he didn’t have time to do that. For most of his tenure he was competing for a Cup.

That’s like saying Stan Bowman set the Blackhawks back ten years simply because he didn’t draft well while winning three Cups. It’s nonsensical. Not many Stanley Cup competitive teams have great prospect pools, they’re trying to win the Cup.

Understatement, I hope the NHL & PA unravel what happened to Pearson as well. I find it hard to believe PA & Boudreau knew nothing about his ongoing hand issues. If that's the case this management group is more out of touch with their players than anyone thought. Make no wonder there's issues with the room. In any event I hope their feet get held to the fire.

A new coach who isn't a lame duck, and actually gets to pick his own assistants already has a big leg up on Bruce

His trades were terrible as Bennings aside from the one he made with the cap strapped Sharks. Forget the Dmans name. I know you guys liked him but he was soft as sh1t.

All his other trades stunks. You guys really forget the chants at the arena "Fire Gillis"?

The fact is they were a really good team for a number of years during his tenure even if you ignore the President’s Trophy and their division, they were just as successful outside their division as they were in it.

As I just said in the post above, when teams are trying to win the Cup and you’re dealing with an owner who won’t let you do your job it’s a difficult situation. For Gillis, Linden and Benning. But there’s no way Gillis set the franchise back ten years lol. Benning had cap space and tradable assets when he came onboard, he had a tremendous first draft, I was excited, and then he pissed all that excitement away within a couple years making stupid moves.

His drafting was definitely his biggest weakness for sure, some brutal picks, especially the few he actually made in the 2nd/3rd rounds were just weird
