Miller trade was good, handling of that asset by current management wasn't. But I also fully understand it (if you disagree, then it's just pure blind stupidity on your end), we had a team that got a huge boost under BB and a player who hit 99pts and was the driving force of a team that almost made playoffs after a dreadful start. No way Ownership was letting him get traded at TDL unless an offer was too good to pass up. 2022 1st, Lundqvist and Chytil was not that offer (if that was the offer). Now we hit the offseason and we improved the team on paper. Again, ownership would not allow any selling of assets and will push to re-sign Miller, which we did. Miller goes back into lazy habits and BB is stupid enough to continue playing him against top lines, and here we are.

I couldn't disagree more. That was the beginning of setting this team back by years. Awful trade!!

I didn't see it as that... Late first rounders rarely become impact players. JTM produced more then said player was likely to ever produce and could have brought back better assets.

I get that the team was not ready to compete during his time here. But as far as asset management to get better I thought it was a good trade taking advantage of a team needing to shed cap... something we have never really done successfully.

But the pick was artificially late because of the addition of Miller, and they didn’t really take advantage of the situation so much as pay market value. Anyway, what’s done is done, can only hope they find a way to get out of their bad decision to sign his extension.

We had(and still have) Ownership that only wants to compete for playoffs (not the cup). All moves made must be with that goal in mind every season from beginning to end. Managements job is to find the best players possible they feel will accomplish this goal. At the time he was acquired, JTM was that trade. This is the way it will always be unless FA sells the team, or his dad dies.

Took him 4 teams and a lot of growing up. If Seattle didn't pick him, I doubt he becomes what he is today. He is William Karlsson 2.0. Will have a couple good seasons, and then likely sit back and become a 2c or 3c.

That pick ended up being 20th overall, which was because the Canucks made the play-in thingy and played well for 15 games.
Acquiring Miller gave the team a boost in the standings, allowing them to stay in the bubble territory of picking. Without Miller, that pick would have at least been lowered to the Braden Schneider territory.
Wouldn't it be nice having a player like that in the system?

As Marwood said, it was the wrong time to make that move, but I think with Pouty wanting another winger, Benning/Aqua folded into his demands

Having Schneider would be amazing. What do you think the odds Benning would draft him would be?

The Canucks were not a contending team at the time. It helped Tampa out of both a cap crunch and unloading a disgruntled player. He already had a reputation of being immature and selfish in NY. I hated it the moment it happened.
- Marwood

JTM had value he could have been traded, JR elected to extend him. The team knew they would be in a worse position yet here we are.

His career high of 50 points with a minus 26..... he will likely never put up close to the stats miller has. He is already on his 4th team at 26yrs old. Something is wrong there. I didn't like his trade as I thought the Canucks gave up early and wrong timing on that one as well though. But the other teams also thought the same about him being expendable and not worth much.

And for every Jared McCann we have how many
Hunter Shinkaruk
Brendan Gaunce
Nicklas Jensen
Jordan Schroeder
Patrick White
Nathan Smith

Interesting enough there were much better names that we have drafted in late first round then McCann lol Like Brock Boeser

And even then, Konecny, Carlo, Hintz would have been better picks. Late rounds are such a crap shoot, unless you have 4+ picks, you should never bet on them. Even with 4+ you can whiff on all of them.

Edit: Lets not forget Aho

That is key here... we wouldn't be so annoyed if he had returned assets which should have been more then the late first.

I didn't even get into picks other teams made... I just used our own examples... but in hindsight of course there are gems we could have possibly made in every draft....

Was just saying late 1st round picks have more likelihood of being a bust or bottom 6 player then a top 6 player and it isn't close.

Yup. But if we can get 2 more 1sts and a couple more 2nds this year and have 5 cracks at it. Get our top 5 ranked Dmen (hopefully a few RHD), we will have a much higher chance to get an impactful Dman who will be ready sooner rather than later. We can use other highly touted D prospects after that to make other improvements.

Again another perplexing deal by JR. I thought there may be a secondary deal in place, not anymore.

The best thing this group can do now is wait for the end of the season and try to re-group.

The last thing JR needs now is to grab an anchor from another team.

If that 1st, Chytil Lunquist is true then they really pooped the bed. Be lucky to get one of those now.

Of course they couldn't predict how bad he would become, but with the way Miller is playing he is a liability to this team now. That first goal against Winnipeg ... anyone on my beer league team could have stopped that pass ... and we're a bad team. He always cheated the game, but he is certainly not scoring or providing enough offense to make up for how bad he is playing currently. That and the fact he sets a crappy example for younger guys. Anytime a play like that in Winnipeg happens, he looks around for someone else to blame. You see Petey doing it now too.

Checkmark beside Miller bash for the day. It's great to get things done and feel accomplished

If we could have done that then flipped Nils Lunquist to Dallas we could have had 2 1st rounders and Chytil lol

That is a good start. My list is quite a bit longer, but 3 or 4 of those guys would be a good start.
I have a bad feeling that this regime will hold on too long and run out of time.

This idea of the age gap players, just isn't going to work, under the current circumstances, as there are just too many holes to fill.

- Reubenkincade

So you believe deals are easy to make so just pull the trigger or cave to poor offers? Where did this age gap player notion come from?

Canucks to make the playoffs - 3%
Canucks to make the 1st overall pick - 4%

Which direction to go?

Playoffs, likely need to go 28-10-4 for 97 points.

Lottery, likely need to go 8-30-4 for 57 points.

Well Benning, and now JRPA have said deals are hard, so I believe them,

Heck no to caving in on a trade, much rather just see if they can re-sign this group, much more preferable than taking a 2nd round pick for Schenn, when you are wanting 2-2nds

The age gap 1st came from Benning, then has been repeated by JRPA, so it has to be real, as those are some pretty reliable sources to believe.

Would rather have him then Boeser.... but yes I agree we are not in a spot to sign him. I worry that without EP he drops to 0.5p/G player as well and not worth the high $ he is asking.
- SMP8719

Most good players drop off in points if not 1st line & PP. The real question is if he is 1st line material.
