I don't see many free agents flocking to Vancouver.

Their reputation and PR department isn't exactly stellar.

Ya? Trade him by TDL for a 1st ++ and then when he doesn't do as good with another team, on July 1st we can talk about how much better he was with EP and get him for a better cap hit.

And that's fine if he won't come back. We can't afford the question mark of a 9m deal and he isn't worth keeping short term when we need to reset. That said... Management is useless and don't want to reset/rebuild. they want to continue shuffling chairs on the titanic... so who knows.

Kuz came here because he was gonna get PP time and play with EP. That raised his value. Mission accomplished... now he wants to cash in.

What I find amusing is the excuses and lack of transparency from JR, his tune has sure changed fast in one year.

Schenn $850, Pearson $3,250,000 = $4,100,000. You also have EP's contract coming up at the end of next season which will probably be about 10M.

How in the actual f*ck do you plan on keeping Horvat let alone Kuz?

Even if they somehow manage to trade Garland and/or Boeser they will be taking a haircut on those deals.

- VanHockeyGuy

Exactly. They're in tough to even keep this poopty team together, let alone upgrade.

Not one tweet from Francesco since Dec 10th?

There's a guy on HF who always posts screenshots of his old tweets after every embarrassing loss, a great way to lighten the mood

The only thing we hear from anyone at the top is Rutherford blaming everyone else as he pours gasoline on the fire.

Really it is all Bennings fault. He really screwed the team with the OEL trade (which i liked at the time). The problem is that we have all this dead cap space and they still want to compete. We need to reset and let as much of it go away as possible and then go at it hard again. 2 seasons is all we need. wait to buy OEL out, Myers and Pearson are off the books, Boeser hopefully traded. Horvat and Kuzmenko traded for assets. In year 3 we start adding assets to the team and trading others that we feel are a lower tier to be more competitive.

Yeah OEL was a the final nail in the coffin no doubt for this group together.

They had a chance with Miller to reset a bit and continue to build. Even competitive teams have to have an aspect of asset management. Not trading him at deadline was one thing, not trading him in off-season was inexcusable.

Benning was dreadful and I despised most of his trades, the OEL & Miller ones are 1 & 2.
Rutherford has done nothing to help and has only dug this franchise into a deeper hole while throwing his coach under the bus since the off season. It will take 5-7 years to fix this embarrassment, if they start now. Otherwise it's going to be another 10 brutal years.

Why do you hate the miller trade. That has to go down as a win. Just because they signed him instead of trading him doesn't make it a lost trade. He could have given 4 productive years here and brought back more then it cost to acquire him.

Miller trade was good, handling of that asset by current management wasn't. But I also fully understand it (if you disagree, then it's just pure blind stupidity on your end), we had a team that got a huge boost under BB and a player who hit 99pts and was the driving force of a team that almost made playoffs after a dreadful start. No way Ownership was letting him get traded at TDL unless an offer was too good to pass up. 2022 1st, Lundqvist and Chytil was not that offer (if that was the offer). Now we hit the offseason and we improved the team on paper. Again, ownership would not allow any selling of assets and will push to re-sign Miller, which we did. Miller goes back into lazy habits and BB is stupid enough to continue playing him against top lines, and here we are.

Was the timing for me. It was clear to me that they hadn’t done enough to take the next step, so mortgaging the future for the short term bump would come back to burn them. It was yet another shortcut that is hurting them.

Trade proposal by Jeff Patterson!

I’d be looking at load management for OEL in Carolina on Sunday. End of long trip. 2nd of back to backs. Against quick Canes. Give the man the night off”

I didn't see it as that... Late first rounders rarely become impact players. JTM produced more then said player was likely to ever produce and could have brought back better assets.

I get that the team was not ready to compete during his time here. But as far as asset management to get better I thought it was a good trade taking advantage of a team needing to shed cap... something we have never really done successfully.

It was the wrong time, but even when finishing at the bottom of the league, Benning/FA were wanting to win and spending/trading like that could. We almost lost Horvat for Subban... Luckily CBJ took PLD before he got to us, they saved our a$$ there.

The Canucks were not a contending team at the time. It helped Tampa out of both a cap crunch and unloading a disgruntled player. He already had a reputation of being immature and selfish in NY. I hated it the moment it happened.
