Actually, I think this is keenly astute. He’s acknowledging that the Penguins are simply a better team than the Canucks. It doesn’t matter how well they play, if the competition also plays well, chances are they (the rest of the league) win.

If only management could have this same epiphany.

Sounds like Miller is a good influence in the room.

So you think Canucks are the better team but just made a few mental mistakes?

According to these standings, the Canucks are in 7th and the Penguins are in 20th, so ya, the Canucks have to be better

That is a good start. My list is quite a bit longer, but 3 or 4 of those guys would be a good start.
I have a bad feeling that this regime will hold on too long and run out of time.

This idea of the age gap players, just isn't going to work, under the current circumstances, as there are just too many holes to fill.

Totally agree. I’d go scorched earth, and I’d start with the “best” players.

And now for something completely different. Just seen on Twitter:

“Is buttcheeks one word? Or should I spread them apart?”

Just checked out the stat sheet at nhl.com to see if they input the turnovers similar to what happened in the game. Will all the turnovers the Canucks had last night, I expected to see a lot more,
They credited Studnicka with 0, and he passed the puck, at least twice, to the other team, didn't get credited with any giveaways, Mikheyev zero, yet turned the puck over, that led directly to a goal and Hughes was credited with 1, when he clearly coughed the puck up on at least 5 occasions.

Like any analytic, it is about who is punching in the numbers.

Turnovers have always been recorded brutally. I haven’t bothered looking at those stats in years.

If we had 6-Brendan Guance style players in the bottom 6 making 875K each we would be right in the thick of it.

Demko is best to keep IMO, we just need to get a future starter in the pipeline and backing him up by year 3 of his contract.

Pearson is as untradeable as OEL, luckily he only has 1 year left.

Garland I keep. No matter what anyone thinks of him, he is an ideal 3RW who generally produces like a 2RW.

The rest I agree with, Stillman we are better off just burying in Abby, Burroughs we probably need to keep depending on returns. Myers likely untradeable until his bonus is paid. Boeser is likely an off season deal if at all.

I too collected Pokemon Cards. If I still had my Charizards, they would have bought me a house by now.

Well... at least he doesn't collect Yu-Gi-Oh cards... collecting Pokemon cards just means he's just a little crazy, collecting Yu-Gi-Oh cards is batpoop insanity and deviancy on the scale of a mass child serial murderer.

Just thought I would point out how easily numbers can be skewed, for those that rely strictly on the numbers.

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to bottom out, you trade Demko. What's the point of keeping around a goalie that's going to steal you games and keep you further up the standings? None. Plus, goalies are fickle and can be found in FA to keep your team afloat. Get a vet that can mentor a younger guy in a couple years.

Honestly, I would bet on this draft. Tank hard this year to get a top 5 pick (all the centers are ready or close to ready) and use additional 1sts and 2nds on D to try and get that top pairing dman. After that maybe weaponize cap a bit, but I wouldn't make the goal to lose after next year. I think the goal should be to insulate young players and give them the longest leash possible to figure it out, while having vets take all the poop jobs and defensive zone starts.

I think 2 years of bottoming out at minimum. Gives time for contracts to come off the books. High picks. In that timeframe Demko isn't going to help... so sell high on him while you can. It's also hard to weaponize cap for 1 year.

The only 2 contracts that will have any affect are Pearson and Myers. And by trading Bo (hopefully Miller) and Boeser, the cap isn't an issue. Demko gives a steady goalie that will bail out young players who make mistakes. This will help with their confidence overall, which will lead to better development. The problem with trading Demko, is after we are done bottoming, we have no Goalie. Suddenly we are Buffalo/Edmonton. Demko is very important to the quick turn around Ownership wants, and his injury gives us the rebuild we want.
