I think doing something like JTM for Prov and Bo for Fabbro + 2023 1st and a 2nd is the only way we get picks. FA refuses to rebuild, but these two trades help fix our top 4 D. Creates a log jam so Schenn needs to go. then you decide to keep Bear and trade Myers or keep Myers and trade Bear.

Prov - Hughes
OEL - Fabbro
Dermott - Myers/Bear

- Retinalz

IF BB is fired asap & Hughes a long stint as RSD & he adjusts well these pairings are much improved but not cheap.

That would be a fair return.

Trading Miller for future considerations would be a win.

EK continues to make money off of us without paying a new blogger. I doubt he is in any rush to get one.
- Retinalz

It’s a long list EK has to choose from in here. It makes it more than nada😂

Least effective pairing in the NHL.

Using @TheAthleticNHL’s player cards I went about ranking 77 NHL defense pairs (minimum 245 5-on-5 minutes) based on surplus value provided this season.

The OEL-Myers pair ranked 77th out of 77.

On Vancouver’s over-priced, underperforming blue line: theathletic.com/4075669/2023/0…

- Pacificgem

I’d peg OEL as a 4m LHD Myers 3m RHD. That’s a bit generous. Not a good 2nd pairing dynamic at that. Myers guards the crease with or without any Ops around & leaves any partner to do break outs. Myers cannot be gone soon enough. OEL is better than he plays but at needs the right partner which we don’t have. He’s suited as a 4th D. That’s pretty bad when already missing 2 top 4 D.

There will be twice as many this year as there were last year ... and Miller won't be one of them.

Not sure anyone saw that coming, I mean there were lots here that wanted him gone but I don’t think anyone expected it to be this bad.
Only real reason I can think of is something has gone stinky in the room and Grandpa Bruce doesn’t know how to fix it.

Miller aside why does anyone want a high priced reclamation project like Provo? We already know what we have in Miller in a season he is off on but can bounce back. It’s rare that high scoring F’s have the complete 200’ game. I’ll take his offence & PP skills & work on fixing the team D issues. Time to get back to 2 scoring lines & forget about the 3. That’ll have to wait til the talent is there. Means a winger with high cap hit has to go. If or when Bo is gone will define the future for many years for good or bad. A key point in time us fans both worry about & hope we can win this trade.

No I can't profess that I saw this kind of drop in play coming. I was in trade him boat as a simple sell high ... and the cap ... and the team around him wasn't good enough.

As for the scoring, I think the PP has a lot to with it. Last year him or Hughes were gonna be in on almost every PP goal as they were so one dimensional. Kuzmenko has added a new dynamic and Petey becoming a threat again has changed things ... although they still do that circle at the top thing a lot.

So not one of the best top 9’s in the league? One of the best top 6’s now?

I do agree though, Phillies in the same boat as the Canucks, they aren’t taking on Millers contract. Someone mentioned Buffalo another team in the right position of a rebuild might be NJ or maybe LA. Hoping for teams in the same scenario, to trade for Miller is just hope.

For the Canucks to be competitive for 82 games & in the PO’s it’ll take 4-5 very good players to surround Miller.

Petey Bo Hughes are 3 leaving the D the black hole as usual. Bo looks to be a goner making us a rebuild team. Unlikely with FA around. The odds of 2 very good pieces coming back for Bo is a wish but far from any guarantee. I like Kuz & Miky in a support role but again it’s Boeser & Garland whose contracts & value holding back the F lines. In goal we can expect more quality. Myers has to be a priority to be gone. The UFA market has Gudas who can add grit & D but not top 4. Soucy plays either side but same results.

Going to take a few trades & a step or 2 back before going forward. If FA cannot or will not agree we are effed for many many years as some claim.

I don't see any of those NJ, Buf, LA taking on Miller. Eats away at their flexibility when re-signing all those high draft pics and young guys. I think they'd look more to rental or 2-3 year signed vets.

Ya I had them top 9 lol

The blender & on ice results had a real effect on that prediction 😂

The ultra cruddy record setting start was unforeseen & the fact it lasted that long was amazing. Goalies & push back was pathetic. The PK was craptacular & goes on the coaches. A totally disastrous beginning.

Remember last spring when some suggested trading Miller would lead to years of mediocrity? Good times!

I really think the biggest problem is in the Dressing room. On paper this is a good roster.

Probably so. The leadership group is uninspiring imo. I don’t mind Millers fire but the rest of the vets are too docile. Bo tries to be level headed but doesn’t stir the pot & kick some ass. OEL an ‘A’ doesn’t exude passion & fire. Myers is a buffoon. The rest don’t speak out other than Schenn & Bear. Overall there is a serious lack of professional attitude & warrior spirit. Most of us beer leaguers in here have more piss n vinegar than this roster.

Bear, Stillman, Schenn, Myers and Hughes are all 5-8 calibre defensemen, leaving the D the black hole until they can get defensemen,#1-4, which will take a few years.

I would like to see, Kuz & Miky & Boeser & Garland all gone, over the next season or sooner.

Structure & systems need an immediate change. Passengers like Brock need to be carried. Garland is ineffective. The forecheck & aggressive pressure on the puck in all 3 zones is pathetic.
